TOKYO – Undisputed super bantamweight world champion Naoya Inoue and challenger Junto Nakatani made weight Friday on the eve of their highly anticipated title match at Tokyo Dome.
Regarded as two of the world’s best pound-for-pound boxers, they both hold unblemished 32-0 records ahead of the showdown in front of an expected record-breaking crowd of around 55,000 at the sold-out venue in central Tokyo.
The 33-year-old Inoue weighed in at the limit of 55.3 kilograms (122 pounds), while the 28-year-old Nakatani tipped the scales at 55.1 kg.
The fight will be part of a world-title doubleheader also featuring Inoue’s younger brother Takuma, who will defend his WBC bantamweight crown against countryman Kazuto Ioka, who is aiming to become Japan’s first five-division men’s boxing world champion.
The younger Inoue made weight at 53.4 kg, while Ioka came in at the limit of 53.5 kg.
