Sisi, Japanese DJ and Rainbow Disco Club resident, dies aged 46 · News ⟋ RAThe Tokyo-based artist suffered an intracerebral hemorrhage, the festival confirmed.
Japanese DJ Tetsuyoshi Kisisita, AKA Sisi, has died aged 46.
Rainbow Disco Club, the festival where the Tokyo-based artist was a longtime resident, broke the news to Resident Advisor, revealing that he died last Wednesday, April 22nd, after suffering an intracerebral hemorrhage.
Born in Mito City, Kisisita became immersed in Japan’s record digging culture at an early age, later working at Shibuya record shop Disk Union and becoming a familiar figure on the capital’s club circuit from the mid-’00s onwards. He also co-ran Test Trax, a blog documenting obscure dance music and deep cuts, alongside fellow DJ Tosi.
A core part of the festival’s identity, Kisisita was closely associated with Rainbow Disco Club since its early years, regularly appearing on lineups and opening proceedings with extended sets showcasing his deep and varied knowledge of house and disco.
Outside of the festival, he often played at clubs such as Contact, VENT and WOMB, appeared internationally on occasion, and was part of the DJ collective Timothy Really Lab.
He played at what was the 17th edition of Rainbow Disco Club earlier this month, and was booked for European festivals Love International and Sziget this summer.
Listen to Sisi’s RA Podcast from 2017, and revisit our 2019 Rainbow Disco Club review, in which his set was highlighted as one of the festival’s five key performances.
