Japan is often known for its culture, safety, and high trust society, but behind the scenes, it also has one of the strictest immigration systems in the world. If you are interested in Japan, Japan travel, or understanding life in Japan beyond tourism, this topic reveals another side of the country. In this video, I break down how Japan is working toward its Zero Plan, an effort to eliminate illegal immigration and overstayers. With about 68,000 undocumented residents compared to millions in countries like the US, Japan is already strict, but new policies aim to go even further. From random ID checks and tip reward systems to advanced tracking databases and detention centers, Japan’s immigration enforcement is deeply integrated into daily life. Foreign residents are required to carry identification at all times, and government systems track visas, taxes, and residency in real time. This raises bigger questions about Japan work culture, national identity, and what makes Japan what it is today. Would Japan still feel the same with more open immigration, or is this system part of what preserves its unique society?

  1. Hello. I want to go to Ado concert but i need japanese phone number to buy the ticket. How could i get Japanese phone number abroad? E sim isn't an option because its only for Japan.

  2. I fully support Japan's immigration policy. Here in the US we are having trouble removing illegals due to the "everything is racist" narrative. This coerces brainwashed individuals to run interference for those that seek to destroy this country. We need to adopt a stronger immigration policy that turns away fake asylum seekers that only want to bring to our shores the same negative cultural values that have destroyed their own countries. If they come to the US waving their own country flags, one must ask why they left their origin country in the first place. True asylum seekers come here to assimilate not to invade and bring their criminal activities here.

  3. The birthright citizenship is interesting for me, as I was born in Japan to a Japanese national and American citizen and never considered that I’d be granted citizenship if petitioning to Japan. Back to the U.S. though, the illegal citizens are mostly here as they’ve been hired to do jobs most Americans don’t want, like working in fields where work is back breaking and low paid and they don’t receive government benefits like social security, and generate billions for the U.S. economy and yet are thought by some to be criminals and taking away jobs from US citizens. If our country made it easier for people to come here to work, the people who hire them would benefit and the country would benefit as well. It’s all so backwards here. Now our crops are left rotting in the fields and our cost to buy produce has gone through the roof and we are all paying the price, and government is spending billions on detention facilities and policing. Japan is not in the same situation at all, and we can’t compare Japan to the U.S.

  4. Your comparisons to the US should include the distinction that while Japan has 120M citizen, the US has 340M. So, not really correctly calculated, about three times as many. Anyhow, many of the policies aren't that "outrageous". Citizenship by descent is typical in most countries, actually. It's in Germany, and I would vote against changing it. And their strict look at asylum is fine – The local people should not have to suffer because some dude is acting out. Japan, to me, was always harsh, but fair. It's not for everyone and that's fine.

  5. Sitting back and reading the comments, this video clearly signals to a certain type of viewer. It feels like MAGA bait, regardless of the intention.

  6. Look. They don’t have enough children being born to sustain their population. Let them do whatever they like. Its their country. Japan is dying. If they want to die then let them.

  7. dude, you have to cite your sources. Where are you getting your statistics from? You discredit yourself by not providing a LEGITIMATE source stating that foreigners have 1.72% higher than Japanese citizens. And when we talk about foreigners, that can be anyone not Japanese. There has to be statistics here to see what national causes the most crime. You cannot simply put every foreigner in the same basket. Also, Foreign residents often face higher police scrutiny (racial profiling), which can inflate crime reporting rates, particularly for offenses like not carrying a registration card. Also, over 60% of crimes committed by foreign residents in 2020 were cases of theft. Big deal. The content creator should break down what type of crimes foreigners here if you plan to show statistics. Where did I get my data from. Look it up. Don't hold me to a higher standard than this content creator.

  8. Japan needs to keep its culture intact because what is happening around the world shows open borders do not work at all

  9. Ok, so bad for you to refer and put the word “eliminate” illegal immigrants people then think that it’s a bad thing when it’s just people, there’s bad people everywhere legal or illegal. Stop creating this bad propaganda that politicians uses to get sympathizers to get votes. It’s just not okay to demonize people just for their status.

  10. It's necessary and mandatory. Or else your country will be overrun by millions of foreigners who do not respect your immigration laws, asylum and welfare systems, and do not generate wealth for Japan. Learn from what happened to the US. Especially after the pandemic.

  11. Deporting illegal immigrants seems new or unfamiliar to some US citizens. Every country or nation has this same law, but it seems some people in the US do not agree with this, which is why they have this problem now. Some (not all) do not assimilate, comply, or be productive and feel that they're entitled to be there.

  12. The fact that someone used a racial slur against you while trying to support your point really just highlights how ignorant they are as well as this video.

  13. Crap! What am I going to do? I am not an illegal immigrant, I am just an overstayed tourist who decided to stay indefinitely past my tourist visa. I like it here. I am retired with $$$$. I'll just pretend and continue my act as a tourist and blend in with the millions of other tourists here in Japan.😁

  14. Love the video, but "No Human Is Illegal" as some of us say back here in your homeland. I kept getting tripped up on your language when you called them "illegals." Thank you.

  15. Good job Japan. Start with all the scumbag touts in Kabukicho, Roppongi, and Harajuku!

  16. Good for japan, theses Illegal Immigrants did not respect japan law & will ruins japan society.

  17. Follow the Law.
    1) Yes, snitch.
    2) Show identification if required.
    3) Keep the Detention Center clean.
    4) Leave if you don't like it.

  18. I'm already worried sick when I go out and forgetting my wallet with IDs. So I don't know how illegal immigrants survive life in Japan. Of course, it's just fair that they get eliminated or arrested but what I don't understand is that Japan is being too difficult to migrants getting a permanent residency visa and expensive fees, yet we don't get paid much in average.

  19. I had the chance to travel to Tokyo in March 2026, I was surprised to see so many Nigerians on the streets of Shinjuku behaving suspicioulsy, then, I read that they were scammers. Hopefully these criminals will get deported. Japan must be protected at all cost

  20. I totally agree, i wish they did this here in New Zealand. It's alright for now but it's just to protect our cultures and oceans, land and work ethics so its not being used and abused. Don't get me wrong, our own people need to work on themselves here as well…Maybe strict conditions on certain outsiders who are not born here in NZ and literally will respect our culture and land and oceans and living conditions and crime to survive and learn our language. Have you seen the European Countries? It's shocking 😮 We have alot of our Rugby players living over there for work and they're on strict conditions playing for Japanese Clubs. I respect the Japanese Culture, they're respecting their culture, their way of life and making sure crime isn't created by illegal immigrants which can happen when they're trying to make money undercover so they don't get caught being a overstayer. Also the Japanese manners and politeness and friendliness is amazing. Love the culture and much respect ❤

  21. Great stuff! Please, please, please protect your customs and culture.

Oh and for everyone that loses his s*&^. Illegal = crime.

I live in Holland and (iilegal)immigrants are destroying my country.
