Context: my coworker brings her monthly universal yums box to our office to share the treats. This month was Japan treats, and I snagged this little chocolate cookie bar. It is AMAZING and I’m wondering if anyone knows where I could get some more? Has anyone tried this and thought it was delicious too? Let me know!!

I love that! I used to get it all the time at the combini. I can’t resist anything with cookie and chocolate!

It’s Black Thunder! It’s one of my favorite chocolates here in Japan! The convenience stores typically do collabs. They had one recently with Black Thunder bread, cookies, ice cream, and shakes. They have many different flavors as well.
Wait til you try the ice cream bar version. It’s worth needing stretchy pants 🥹
They sometimes sell Black Thunder at Costco, which is where I first had this. It’s like a better kitkat.

You hit the jackpot!! Black Thunder is amazing! There’s a Hokkaido white chocolate one that’s pretty good too, can’t remember the name.
They have them at Costco occasionally (CONUS) so if you aren’t in Japan you can get your fix.
Black Thunder! I treat them like Pokémon. Gotta catch all the flavors when I’m in Japan. If I see one I haven’t had recently I buy it!
The one I’ve enjoyed the most on recent trips is butter flavored. Yum!

In the snack section of Japanese convenience stores, they are sold individually. In the snack aisles of supermarkets and drugstores, they are sold in large bags. Since they melt in the summer, there might be fewer of them on the shelves.
I used to love Universal Yums. Until they did my birth country, and nothing in the set was close to traditional or even popular in said country. That made me doubt the authenticity or the thoroughness of the cultural research they do. That was when we unsubbed, in 2021 or so.
Wondering how the JP box was in comparison.

Ahh yes the glorious Black Thunder. A nice cheap treat for the regular size bar, think I paid ¥39 give or take tax. I brought a couple of bags of minis home too. They also come in variants like strawberry for spring.
Someone else mentioned the ice cream. I bought one from a konbini to eat while gazing at sakura. I honestly didn’t think I was gonna finish it, it’s enormous! But I trucked on like a brave soldier 😁
