At a unique state school in Japan, students take the lead

A school uniform in a variety of colors; a library designed as a place to unwind; a classroom that looks like a cafe; and even student-drafted school guidelines. One municipal junior high school in Osaka Prefecture is pioneering these initiatives by letting students take the lead.

At Ozu Junior High School in the city of Izumiotsu, it all began with a student-led theater production several years ago.

Since then, teachers have learned to take a step back while students step forward to put their ideas into action.
