A double bill with death metal band Atrocity and symphonic Viking metal band Leaves’ Eyes meant double duty in Tokyo for four of the musicians.
Leaves’ Eyes and Atrocity at Hatsudai Doors, Tokyo, Japan on 6th April 2026

Death metal band Atrocity was formed in 1985. The band’s debut album, “Hallucinations”, came out in 1990. Its most recent album, “Okkult III”, was released in 2023. Lead vocalist Alexander Krull is the band’s sole constant member. Somehow, he has managed to keep the band’s musical style and quality consistent.
The live line-up of the band lacks a bassist on the current tour, but the hard-hitting energy from drummer Simon Škrlec and guitarists Luc Gebhardt and Ewert Florian makes up for it. In Tokyo, they put on a fine performance of old-school death metal. This is very good meat-and-potatoes death metal with hints of other influences in the mix as well. This was Atrocity’s first-ever Japan tour. Many Japanese fans were delighted to finally have the opportunity to see the band live.

The setlist was dominated by songs from the three “Okkult” albums, but there were also some older favourites, such as “Fatal Step” from the “Hallucinations” album and “Necropolis” from 1992’s “Todessehnsucht” album.

Following a quick break, Atrocity’s members were back on stage to perform a Leaves’ Eyes set. Yes, all four Atrocity members are also members of Leaves’ Eyes. In Leaves’ Eyes, they are joined by Elina Siirala on lead vocals and bassist Dominik Prykiel (who some of you may remember from Hate and Batushka).

The musical style of Leaves’ Eyes, combining symphonic metal with folk metal and Viking-inspired lyrical themes, is a great fit for a Japanese audience. Elina’s soprano voice was made for this kind of music. The contrast between her vocals and Alexander Krull’s harsh growls keeps things interesting. Alexander founded the band in 2003. For the past ten years, he has built a strong musical partnership with Elina.

The set contained many fan favourites, such as “Realm of Dark Waves”, “Who Wants to Live Forever”, “Across the Sea” and “Sign of the Dragonhead”. We also got two terrific songs from the band’s brand-new “Song of Darkness” EP – the title song and “Hall of the Brave”.

The energy of the performance was contagious (and a pleasant surprise considering that four of the members were performing their second show for the night).
“Forged by Fire” rounded off a great night of live metal music.
