The 1,000-Year-Old Sakura of Japan — Okayama | Project 47 EP 15

Project 47: Episode 15 — Okayama Prefecture

A cinematic documentary about the Japan you won’t find in guidebooks. This is Episode 15 of Project 47: an open-ended solo motorcycle expedition to traverse every prefecture in the country. Join me as we explore Okayama Prefecture, where the journey shifts from controlled resets and city streets to open mountain roads and moments that make the ride worth it.

Project 47 is an immersive, multi-year travel series documenting an ongoing search for the true heart of Japan. In this chapter, a planned reset turns into something more fluid—balancing time, movement, and the quiet realization that not every part of the journey needs to be chased.

After crossing the Seto Ohashi Bridge, the pace slows. A storm forces a brief stop, turning into time to reset, regroup, and prepare for what comes next. Because even when the bike isn’t moving, the journey never really stops.

Okayama begins in the city—through Kurashiki’s historic quarter and the unexpected character of Denim Street—before giving way to the reality of travel between destinations. Long stretches of road that don’t inspire, moments that don’t quite land… and the constant decision of where to go next.

But that’s only part of it.

The journey shifts again—into the mountains.

What follows is what the ride is really about: empty roads, movement without pressure, and places that feel untouched by expectation. From the preserved streets of Fukiya Furusato Village to one of Japan’s most iconic cherry blossom trees, the Daigo Sakura—estimated to be around a thousand years old—standing alone, unchanged for centuries.

Plans fall away. Time runs short. And what’s left is simple:

Just the ride.

This is a story about rhythm, restraint, and knowing when to stop chasing—and just let the road give you what it will.

  2. ah man, i miss the GB. please bring it back 🙏, BTW you are a great inspiration, Peace from Tunisia 🙂

  3. Okayama was beautiful and Route 2 was very much so not beautiful. Makes me glad you show us all those other gorgeous roads through Japan. Sword museum looked awesome though! I'll have to add that to my map. Daigo Sakura was amazing!

  4. Thanks for another great video Adam 👍 Those cherry blossom trees are part of what Japan so famous and to see that big one too, surely is special. Glad the HD is running well – that big twin should make riding twisties much easier.

  5. Another excellent video, Adam. Oddly I am riding your Miyazaki now on a 160cc scooter. The Friday evening traffic jam at Miyazaki was horrible, but I woke up at a place looking down the sea. I think I will move to Kyushu and spend the rest of my life. I have to change my scooter to a proper bike. Tracer 700 or XSR700 would be nice. Maybe RnineT as well.

  6. It might just be me because I’m slightly deaf but it is hard to hear and understand the talking while the music is playing. Great video anyways!

  7. Hi Adam, pretty blossomed episode here, this place look nice (loved the village and this dream japanese house with all those crazy stairs and rooms) ..
Love your new harley bike sound, but why arn't you using some kind of gps or phone mount to find your road ? You have pretty much all the space you need for it. 🤔

    Godspeed and enjoy your ride

  8. The Daigo Sakura was absolutely stunning! I honestly didn't realise they could get so big.
