OKINAWA (TR) – Police in Naha City arrested a man in his 70s after he allegedly brandished a knife during an attempted bank robbery on Monday afternoon.
The tense moments of the man’s capture were caught on camera, reports TV Asahi (Apr. 13).
According to authorities, a frantic emergency call was placed at approximately 1:40 p.m. from the head office of Okinawa Bank, with the caller reporting, “There is a person holding a knife.”
Officers rushed to the scene and swiftly apprehended the elderly suspect inside the bank. He was taken into custody on the spot on suspicion of attempted robbery.
No injuries were reported among the staff or customers present during the ordeal.
Police are currently questioning the suspect to uncover his motive and investigate the full circumstances surrounding the terrifying incident.
