HOKKAIDO (TR) – Police in Hokkaido Prefecture have launched investigations after three male corpses were discovered in rivers across Sapporo and Ishikari cities on Sunday, reports Fuji News Network (Apr. 12).
At approximately 3:30 p.m., a passerby to the Kotoni-Hassamu River in Sapporo’s Nishi Ward contacted police. “A jacket is floating in the water, looks like a person.”
Firefighters retrieved the individual, but the man, believed to be in his 50s or older, was confirmed dead at the scene. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Also at around 3:30 p.m., a fisherman at the Barato River in neighboring Ishikari City alerted authorities to an “age-unknown male floating in the river.”
Emergency responders recovered the corpse, which was partially skeletonized, indicating a significant amount of time had passed since his death. Based on clothing and physical build, police believe the deceased is male.
In a third grim discovery the same day, a staff member preparing for the seasonal opening of a golf course in Sapporo’s Teine Ward found another man collapsed in a river on the premises. According to golf course officials, the body was that of a large-built man, with the possibility that he may be a foreign national.
Police are rushing to identify the remains of the three men and determine their respective causes of death.
