KYOTO (TR) – As a part of the search for a missing 11-year-old boy, a body believed to be that of a child has been found in a forested area of Nantan City on Monday, according to sources close to the investigation, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Apr. 13).
According to Kyoto Prefectural Police, the body was clothed in a jacket and pants similar to what Yuki Adachi, a sixth-grader at the school, was wearing when he disappeared on March 23.
Police are now working to confirm the identity of the body and cause of death. No further information was provided.
Six days later, relatives discovered a yellow school bag belonging to Adachi in a mountainous area about 3 kilometers west of the school.
On April 12, shoes similar in appearance to those worn by Adachi were found in a mountainous area within the city.
The body found on Monday was in a location separate from both of these discovery locations. Police are investigating whether there is a connection between the discoveries.
Yuki Adachi went missing on March 23 (X)
Adachi disappeared around 8:00 a.m. on March 23 after being driven to the school grounds by his father. Two days later, police released a photo of Adachi on their website, appealing for information and launching a large-scale search operation.
While numerous pieces of information were received, none of them was particularly promising, and the search stalled.
Since Adachi’s disappearance, the school held a parent-teacher meeting and, together with the prefectural police, implemented measures such as strengthening monitoring of children during their commutes to and from school.
