🌸Kyoto Best Sakura Tunnel 🌸Sewari Embankment🌸 Full Bloom Sunset Walk🌸背割堤🌸
On April 7th, after spending a peaceful morning at Nara Park, we made a spontaneous stop on our way back to Kyoto—and discovered one of the most beautiful hidden cherry blossom spots in Japan.
Welcome to the Sewari Embankment 🌸
Located where the Uji, Kizu, and Katsura Rivers meet, this embankment was originally built for flood control. Today, it has transformed into a breathtaking sakura tunnel, lined with hundreds of cherry trees stretching over 1.4 km.
Visiting in the late afternoon, we were lucky to catch the cherry blossoms in full bloom—without the usual crowds. The sakura festival stalls were already set up, but closed for the day, giving the entire area a quiet, almost dreamlike atmosphere.
In this video, we:
Walk through the iconic sakura tunnel on the embankment
Explore the riverbank below for a different perspective
Cross to the opposite side to discover a quieter, lesser-known view
End the day with a peaceful sunset as the bridge and Sakura Deai-kan begin to light up
If you’re looking for a less crowded cherry blossom experience near Kyoto, Sewari Embankment is truly a hidden gem.
