Busan’s DRIVERLESS Rubber Tyre Metro, Line 4 (Anpyeong – Minam)
I’m placing bets that most of you outside of Korea didn’t even know about this driverless line. Busan’s 18km (11mi) driverless line takes people from the city’s north to the hilly areas to the east. Originally planned as a branch of what is now Line 3, it was changed to an AGT due to the terrain, though the smaller catchment area has not justified the need for a subway for the 15 years it has existed. The peak frequency is 8 trips/hour.
Similar systems across the pond in Japan include the Kobe Port Liner, the Yurikamome, the Kanazawa Seaside Line, Hiroshima’s AsTram, the Osaka New Tram, the Saitama New Shuttle, and the Nippori-Toneri Liner.
