Every Tourist Going to Japan Needs To See This
This change will affect every tourist shopping in Japan 🇯🇵 .
Tax-free is no longer instant — and here’s what that means for you ⤵️
1️⃣ You will pay FULL price in stores
No more instant tax-free at checkout.
You’ll pay the full price including the 10% tax.
2️⃣ Refund = airport process
To get your tax back, you’ll need to:
• keep ALL receipts
• go through the refund procedure at the airport
• allow extra time before your flight (there will be lines)
3️⃣ You may NOT get the full refund
Some stores or services may charge a processing fee,
so you might not receive the full 10% back.
4️⃣ You MUST keep your purchases
At the airport, you may be asked to show your items.
If anything is missing →
❗ your entire tax-free claim can be cancelled
5️⃣ 90-day rule
You must take your purchases out of Japan within 90 days,
or you lose your tax-free eligibility completely.
6️⃣ Good news (finally)
No more sealed bags.
You can use everything right away.
What this means for you ⤵️
• You’ll need more cash during your trip
• Shopping becomes less convenient
• Airport time = longer
So yes… plan accordingly.
Send this to someone you’re going to Japan with — they need to know this too. 👩💻🌍✈️
