This spring there’s so much new Pokemon stuff in Japan, for its 30th anniversary! ANA have announced three new Pokemon jets, the Pokemon Cafe in Tokyo’s closing temporarily for a renovation, there’s a collab with Komeda Coffee and Ditto’s taken over the Tokyo Metro. There are several new attractions, including an immersive attraction in Yokohama called Wonderia, the world’s largest fountain show in Odaiba and hints of a possible new Joypolis park. There’s an important update to the rules about taking portable chargers on the plane when you’re going to Japan, and a reminder for hayfever sufferers that seasonal allergies have started in Japan. All Limited Express trains in Hokkaido are now reservation only. We have a timeline for the Suica penguin’s retirement (always bringing you the most important travel news!). A new section of cute character merch shops is opening in Osaka, there’s a new theme at the mofusand store in Harajuku and a cute collab with Tamagotchi at Enoshima Aquarium. It was a nice place to go. It costs more than the Starbucks on the floor below, but great for some quiet time with drinks in the big city.
Hay fever is really bad in Japan during spring. Even if you don't get alleries you may succumb and think your getting sick. Luckily there is Claritin in Japan with the same branding as the US.
So glad I got to go to Hiroshima Castle before it closed to the public. Enoshima is so underrated I didn’t allocate enough time to Enoshima and Kamakura. No plans to go to Japan this year but it is still fun to know what is happening.
Yay! Atami is mentioned! This was my side trip destination from Tokyo and it was so lovely. We only spent the night there so we didn’t see a whole lot besides the main shopping arcade near the station and the castle but it was such a lovely seaside town. I’m glad to see they’ve recovered from that horrible landslide that happened a few years ago.
so for any traveller including me, make sure the phone is fully charged before boarding an aircraft and just leave it alone until you exit it. The charging while on the plane was news to me.

First time I found character street was totally by accident and now I can only seem to find it by going in through the new Tokyo Station entrance
Ikebukuro is my new go to place for affordable housing and had a great stay in the AirBnB’s and hotels in Ikebukuro.

Lol – I always read it as Joyopolis too I never realised it is missing the middle 'o' 🙂
I discovered that the Japanese themselves pronounce Joypolis as Joy-police. The first time I heard it was on the bus going there and it was so hard to contain my cackle. The irony was just too much 🤣🤣
What do you mean it's not Joyopolis? My mind has just been adding that extra "o" for years 😅 devastated I'm missing the Ditto trains, but hopefully there's plenty of cool things for the 30th anniversary still happening when i get there.
