going back in about a week & i'm looking forward to going back to this small locally owned Onigiri shop (near the bamboo forest) that serves fresh Unagi Onigiri!
The monkey park was my absolute favourite place in Arashiyama. I stayed and watched the monkeys for waaaay longer than I had allocated myself on my itinerary and missed out on something else that day, but it was so worth it to just observe them doing all their monkey things โค
Also just want to say that I went to Japan with a friend, and I used Airalo and she used another company. The whole two weeks, she was having trouble accessing internet and no matter how much she fiddled with settings, she was always struggling to connect. I had no trouble at all, I activated the sim before we took off from Australia, and then it was active the second we landed, which was very helpful because it was 9pm when we arrived and we had to find our way from KIX to our hotel in Umeda. I wouldnโt have known about Airalo without your videos, and I will never use any other company after having such a great experience and witnessing a very bad experience.
Thanks for this – lots for us to add to our Nov plans!
I really enjoy your videos. You are very warm, informative and a joy to the ears. I think I've re-watched all your videos at least twice and they have strongly influenced my choices on what to see when I visit Japan. If I could just point out one really small thing… the word "unique" is absolute. Something either is, or isn't unique. It doesn't lend itself to qualification. Otherwise, keep up the wonderful work.

Aahhhhh!!! We are coming to Japan for the first time in September this year for our (late) honeymoon. My husband is a very scared traveler so itโs going to be a massive trip for him, and I am just so excited to take him to the places that you have recommended in all your videos. We are doing Arashiyama bamboo forest (and will absolutely go early in the morning!!) and travelling to Onomichi and Tonomoura because your video covering those locations was just delightful ๐๐ keep up the amazing work and videos, love from the Isle of Man ๐ฎ๐ฒ โค xxx
Hi Sunny, It Chris from Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, It was so good to meet you and your hubby in person, I know we spoke only briefly but you are just the same as you are on your videos. So genuine and true to yourself. Keep that about you and your channel will grow. Resist selling out to click bait videos. Meeting you in person made my whole Japan extra special. Glad you take your own advice in getting to the bamboo forest early, I think to took that advice from you actually. Keep up the great work. Looks like this video would have taken quite a while to make with multiple visits at different times of the year. Hopefully might bump into you again in future Japan trips.
Greetings from Sweden! Thank you for another lovely video! I'm a big fan of your videos (I just might have seen them all) and I really appreciate the thought and care you put in every video.
I'm going to Japan in a month for my second trip there! When i visited Arashiyama I was surprised by how much time I put on watching the monkeys and I was not prepared for the inredible view!
Hi!
I will be in Kyoto on 30.03.2026 with my family. Thx for this great video! I will try to make the Boat ride along Katsura River. I hope i will have enough time to do this ๐ Greetings from Austria!
Have been to the bamboo forest a couple of times in the past. I absolutely love just being surrounded by the tall slender green stalks. No wonder it is so popular. Unfortunately we wonโt make it this coming trip (avoiding most crowds). But thank you Sunny for your fabulous and ever-improving vids. -a fellow Aussie

My favorite part was an area just 400-500meters away from the Bamboo trees. My wife and daugther actually got lost and we ended up in that area and they were very few people. We got really good photos of the area
Hi Sunny, my favourite place in Arashiyama is the mossy temple, Gio-ji Temple! Thank you! ๐
Hello Sunny! Thank-you for all helpful tips and videos you have made over the past few years. Living in Australia ourselves, your perspectives have been very familiar and it has really helped my wife and I on our first trip to Japan late last year.
To answer your question about our favorite place in Arashiyama, we really enjoyed the Gio-Ji mossy temple you mentioned in one of your earlier videos. It was beautiful and tranquil, a nice respite from the crowds.
It was around this area we actually ran into you guys filming one of your videos in Kyoto, but we were too shy and starstruck to come say hi as you both looked hard at work filming ๐.
Regardless whether you pick us for the voucher or not, just wanting to say thank-you so much for all the hard work you put into showing such a beautiful country and culture. As we will be heading to Japan again later this year, we will look forward to watching more of your videos again for new ideas, and perhaps accidentally run into you again and hopefully have the courage to say hi this time ๐.
Heyyy, Im entering the giveaway! and the thing I'm most exited for is the romantic train and the monkey park๐
Love your videos. One huge issue with the area is trying to find a place to eat or drink if you don't have reservations, or if you try to go to place around 12. We went super early in Late November (11/28) to Arashiyama, and finished the area by the time all the tour buses showed up (at least 60, it was INSANE).
The wait for Yoshimura at 12 was almost 3 hours for 2 people. We tried a few other places, and their waits were also multi-hour. We ended up taking a taxi back into the center, where everything had no wait. That in itself was also an issue, as we had to walk about a km away before there was enough traffic flow to catch a Taxi. (We went to Taku Sando Sanjo which was lovely!)
This is really an area you need to get to super early, enjoy the serenity and peace and quiet, and get out before the busses start to arrive. Once they arrive the entire area turns into misery and all the magic disappears in swarms of people.
I guess has to still be to see the bamboo forrest- but the whole area looks so beautiful
Love your content, it was so helpful in planning our first Japan trip last October and we did many of these things you listed here in this video! Arashiyama was definitely one of our favorite days of our trip. The foot bath (14:23) came in clutch when we had downtime before waiting for our Sagano Romantic Train time.
Hi Sunny! I used so much advice from your videos for our Japan trip last Oct/Nov! Thank you for all the helpful tips!
My favorite part of Arashiyama area was probably the Togestukyo bridge and sipping a hot Arabica matcha near the peaceful river. Oh also the view from the top of Monkey Forest! ๐ฅฐ but really we loved this area!
We are going to be going to Japan on 3/19 and I'm most excited to go to monkey park for our visit to Kyoto. We are staying in Kyoto as our "home base" for Japan. I've heard if you don't have a ton of time in Kyoto a lot of people skip this. We chose Kyoto for our home base for the cultural experience. We have learned a lot about Tokyo, Kyoto, and so many other places in Japan from YouTube and your Fukushima video was phenomenal!
Hi Sunny! My favorite part about Arashiyama when we visited last was the monkey park and walking along the Main Street trying different street foods. Canโt wait to go back again in May!
I'm looking forward the most to the beautifull bamboo Forest and the Tenryu-ji temple, because his status as UNESCO world heritage.
We visited Arashiyama in 2018 and Iโm finally getting a chance to go back this April with my mom and sister. Iโm excited to bring them to the bamboo forest and Tenryu-Ji โค
Another great Video ๐๐ป๐๐ป we come to Japan on the 18th May and cant wait to explore ๐ been going through most if not all your videos ๐ we have 4 days Tokyo,4 days Kyoto, 2 days Osaka and 2 days Tokyo before we go to Thailand ๐๐ป we planning on a full day in the Arashiyama area ๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ Airalo is already downloaded with a few other apps ๐ Tablelog, Payke, Go and Klook ๐
Going to visit japan again next march, my son graduation.
Our favorite thing to do in Arashiyama is eating udon at the restaurant near the river ๐
Hi Sunny! Love watching all your videos! We are planning a trip in summer and your videos have been really helpful for getting good ideas. As for Arashiyama, we would like to visit the temples (especially the one with little statues ) and the monkey park, our kids would love it :).
Hi Sunny! My favourite things about Arashiyama is tigetsu-kyo bridge. Looking forward forward to see it live this year. ๐
Love the video, your videos are always very informing and easy to understand. I'm visiting japan this year๐ and im looking forward to visiting both bamboo forest and the togetsu-kyo bridge๐.
Keep up the good work
Adashino Nenbutsu-ji & Otagi Nenbutsu-ji!
I cannot wait to be there in May!! I have been obsessed with Japan forever (I know, I know, aren't we all?!). Sunny your videos are so beautiful and peaceful that they feel like meditation! And as italian your recurrent focus on coffee spots always makes me smile ๐ In Arashiyama I want to visit several of the spots you mentioned, but thanks to this video I added a new one: Yusaitei Gallery! I so love reflections!! โค๏ธ
Favorite memory from Arashiyama was overshioting Saga-Arashiyama and finding out about Hozu Gorge at the next stop! Barely any people since it was drizzling a little bit but so peaceful and beautiful!

Summer for us to climb Fuji.
Looking forward to Saga Torimoto Preserved Street and its Temples.
Love your work.
Hi Sunny!! For my trip to I cannot wait to see the Bamboo Forest and Tenryu-ji temple!!
My husband got sick during our trip last autumn so we couldnโt make it at Arashiyama so itโs top of the list when we go back in spring! I really want to see the little statues at Otagi Nenbutsuji

Hi Sunny! My favourite thing we did on our last trip to Arashiyama was getting a coffee and slowly walking along the riverside watching all the boaters and people walking on the bridge, it was a calming moment in a busy area ๐
Last summer in Kyoto we only had 5 days, so this May/June we want to do tons of hiking in Arashiyama, while trying to minimize crowds.
I loved it all
I'm looking forward to Hozogawa River Cruise with my 11 years old son.
Going to Japan in 2 weeks and can't wait to visit arashiyama to ride the romantic train. My husband and I love trains.
I've been twice to arashiyama. Hard to say what was favorite. Going down the hozugawa river was a great time and seeing the monkey park was also great!
Hi Sunny! We went for one day in October last year and it was awesome. We loved the Otago Nenbutauji Temple and the walk up to the temple. We were able to grab ice cream on the way down and it was awesome. Ozuru is a pretty good spot for Udon. It was towards the entrance to the bamboo forest. Great video as always!
I went to the garden @ Sakura season in 2023, it was beautiful.
The bamboo grove was nice but there were a lot of people.
We also took the sagano romantic train, I thought it was well worth the price.
