As announced last year, Charli XCX will star in and produce a new film from prolific Japanese master of horror Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi the Killer).
While on the SmartLess podcast, the pop superstar provided an update on the anticipated project, revealing that production is slated for this year in Japan.
“I’m really excited to work with Takashi Miike this year on this film that I’m going to produce, which is crazy to me to go to Japan and shoot with a horror auteur,” Charli said. “I’m like, ‘This is insane!’”
Although it hasn’t been confirmed that it will be a genre movie — having directed over 100 films, Miike has worked in every genre — the fact that Charli referred to him as a “horror auteur” makes it a pretty safe bet.
Ross Evans and Yumiko Aoyagi are co-writing the script. Charli XCX will produce under her Studio365 banner.
Stay tuned for more as we learn it. In the interim, you can see Charli in her mockumentary The Moment now, then catch her in the meta remake of Faces of Death on April 10.
