Don’t Come to Japan in 2026 During These Times | Travel Mistakes Everyone Makes
A year ago, I made a video about the best and worst times to visit Japan, and it passed 1.4 million views.
But now it’s 2026, and the situation has completely changed.
Japan is more popular than ever. In 2025, the country welcomed 42 million visitors, the highest number in history.
If you travel using old information, you’ll face higher prices, longer waits, and lower satisfaction.
The 2026 calendar also creates unique peak travel periods, and some are best avoided.
So in this video, I’ll show you five times to avoid, two best times to visit, three seasons that depend on your travel style, and three key things to know for Japan in 2026.
Because in 2026, knowing when NOT to go matters more than knowing when to go.

I'm visiting Japan from mid-May until early August. Will be studying the language.
I took a trip in September last year, and it actually ended up being great! I really enjoy the rain, so the weather didn’t bother me. It wasn’t very busy in many places due to the month being unpopular to travel.
Going in July for 2 weeks
So this is going to make the not so crowded seasons become more crowded after watching videos like these😂 Anyway thanks Toshi. Your efforts are always appreciated.
I'm visiting Japan from early Feb to end of of Feb. I'm visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, day trip to Nara from Kyoto, Osaka, Hakone, and Fujikawaguchiko. I also heard the crowds are far fewer in February compared to cherry blossom season and everything flows much smoother. Is there anything i should know before my travel to Japan?
great information, Toshi ..
and greetings from 🇮🇩 Indonesia
Hi Toshi! Thanks so much for the info! I think let's not forget the up and coming Pokemon Kanto theme park opening in February. It's gonna draw some attention and crowd.
Also, in April, I will be travelling to Hokkaido for cherry blossom, and to Tochigi for Wisteria (藤花) but I'm actually staying in Chiba.
Going to Osaka near a holiday. Pray for me.
China has cancelled many flights to Japan, so I don't think there will be any problems with large numbers of tourists this year =)
Woo hoo Im going to Japan for the first time in March and now I've found out its the best time to visit ! I'd like to say that was planned but it was just beginners luck !
04.02-23.02 is ok in my opinion, snow only in north side not much in tokyo/osaka
You are truly the best Toshi! Thank you for the amazing videos and the information. I greatly appreciate you and all your hard work. Keep it!
In September 2024 I did my trip do Japan, I spent almost the all month and It was a lot of heat !! I didn't saw any typhoon warning. Although I know that September and October are the typhoons favorite months
True, our hotel is expensive in mid February
Yea but if i arrive in April 15 i will able to book all reserved seats in advance with no problem with the JR pass it worked every time 😃
Any tips for the sea day (20.07)?
Let me summarize: it's always crowded 🤭 I go for the 3rd time in April/Mai back to Japan. I was in golden week in Tokyo, no issue. Yeah shinkanzen was full, but okay. Summer was far more exhausting.
I traveled to Japan in September in 2023 and I don't remember it raining too much. Maybe I just got lucky. I'm going with my parents this year in September and we're pretty locked into the dates, so hopefully we'll get lucky with the weather. Thanks for the video, now I can at least expect and prepare for rain.
September? but TGS is on Sept….i hope mid of February don't have much people from China.
I will visiting Tokyo in May 10 to May 18 after golden week!
i went to kyushu after the new year holidays and it was dead. we had sogi falls to ourselves. recommended.
