Kurukshetra University has taken a significant step towards global academic integration with Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva’s representation in a national-level delegation to Japan from January 12 to 17.

The delegation, comprising representatives from 30 leading Indian universities, visited Japan under the banner of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to advance the agenda of internationalisation of higher education envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.

Deputy Director (Public Relations) Dr Jimmy Sharma said that during the visit, Prof Sachdeva played an active role in high-level deliberations held in Tokyo with the University of Tokyo; Japan External Trade Organisation; Sophia University; and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

Prof Sachdeva informed that the discussions focused on expanding student and faculty exchange programmes, facilitating international internships, promoting collaborative research in science, technology, sports and culture, and creating improved employment opportunities for Indian students, including those from Kurukshetra University, in Japan.

In Kyoto, Prof Sachdeva led discussions at Kyoto University of Advanced Sciences on strengthening collaboration in cutting-edge areas such as material science, energy and, electrical and mechanical engineering.

Prof Sachdeva added that the final leg of the visit in Osaka included meetings with senior representatives of Kansai University, Osaka University, Osaka Metropolitan University and Kyoto University; institutions that together have contributed nearly a dozen Nobel laureates to the world and in a major outcome of the visit, an MoU draft was signed with Kansai University.

Prof Sachdeva stated that Kurukshetra University will shortly move towards signing direct bilateral MoUs with these internationally renowned Japanese universities to ensure concrete and exclusive benefits for students and faculty members.
