Hendersonville High School has been selected as the only high school in the nation to participate in a prestigious international Japanese language exchange, offering students in Mrs. Kondo’s Japanese language class and Japanese Club a rare opportunity to connect live with peers in Japan.

The exchange is coordinated by the Japanese International Cooperation Center (JICE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening relationships between Japan and the United States through educational and cultural programs. Regional Japanese embassies nominate local schools for participation, with just one high school ultimately chosen nationwide. Hendersonville High School was selected from among those nominees, making this opportunity both highly competitive and unique.

The program, known as the KAKEHASHI Online Exchange, connects students from Mrs. Kondo’s class with Koshigaya-Kita High School in Koshigaya City, Japan. Through a live-streamed, interactive format, students engage in authentic language practice while gaining meaningful cultural insight and global perspective.

This national recognition reflects Hendersonville High School’s commitment to global learning and providing students with high-quality, real-world educational experiences beyond the classroom.
