Walking Around Fuse, Osaka: Retro Streets and Downtown Atmosphere
Although I originally wanted to head north toward Tohoku, recent news about bears made me change my route and head west instead. The final destination of this journey is Okayama Prefecture.
After leaving Okayama and passing through Hyogo, I arrived in Osaka.
I had been wanting to explore some neighborhoods in Higashi-Osaka for a long time, and I finally got the chance. I came to the area around Fuse Station, which is likely the liveliest part of the city.
The area features a large covered shopping arcade and streets filled with a strong downtown Osaka atmosphere. Nearby is Fuse Shinchi, once a red-light district, where rows of old-style snack bars still remain. The streets retain a distinctly Showa-era feel, giving the area a nostalgic charm that’s becoming increasingly rare today.
