Trying the World’s First “Human Washing Machine” Hotel in Japan

Today’s video… Just relax and enjoy the video! December 14th, 2025 Now taking a Kintetsu train from Nara(where I live) to central Osaka I always take this train to Osaka but never get bored of this breathtaking views, especially at sunset The vast residential area stretches out before you, and you can see the urban city of Osaka in the distance This will make your day special Namba, Osaka Today, we are spending a night at Namba People say it’s rare to see biker gangs these days But they are apparently ALIVE The center of Osaka has a unique, chaotic culture Today, we are trying the world’s-first thing in Osaka One hotel in Namba recently installed a “human washing machine” A human washing machine was first introduced in Expo 1970 Osaka A further improved version was also introduced in 2025 Expo Osaka They finally realized practical application in a HOTEL Without further ado, let’s head to that hotel, which is about 10 mins from central Namba through the “Minami” area which is a red light district of Namba The street we are now walking is a “Host” town, where female customers pay for male company It’s a male equivalent of a hostess establishment Looks like we arrived at the hotel Here we are at “Dotonbori Crystal Hotel III” 10-storied compact hotel converted from an apartment A human washing machine was just installed on December 10th in this hotel Only 4 groups can use the machine per day The cost is 18000 JPY/126.00 USD for 90 min use (Regardless of the number of people) And it’s a separate fee from the accommodation fee I’m staying here today with my father and the accommodation fee for 2 persons is 11618 JPY/81.33 USD a night Walking the hallway, it feels like an apartment, not a hotel at all I’m home~ It’s a very “Japanese apartment” atmosphere There is a kitchen near the entrance Here is a shoe case You take off your shoes and change into slippers here Our human washing machine session is from 6:30AM to 8:00AM So let’s just kill time for a while in here They are twin beds made of Simmons Oh, my father just arrived! Looks like he wants to enter the room Hello Father: “Hehehe” Welcome to my new house Looks like he’s been holding it and entered the restroom Enjoy Checking the window views… 1.5/10 I don’t like silence so always turn on TV to make random noise Can’t wait for the human washing machine session Oh, here is a washing machine Probably this one is not for a human Japanese style hotel bathroom which is not having a toilet inside You can drink coffee There are dishes for room cooking It’s time to use the human washing machine We are guided to a different room One entire room for a human washing machine experience It’s so large a room Here it is! THE HUMAN WASHING MACHINE 1,595,000 JPY/11,165 USD machine (construction costs not included) At this point, only special businesses can purchase it, but the company, SCIENCE aims to sell it to ordinary households next year I’ve seen a lot of human washing machine experiences at the Expo, so I’m thrilled to be able to actually experience it here The room has an entire space for relaxation Even if you are not a guest here, you can use it if you can make a reservation for this room Towels, bathrobes, drinks, etc. are provided They are all included in the fee Check the “How to use the human washing machine” first I should have read this more seriously because I used it a bit wrong Smoked glass provides privacy Wear the headphones while being washed inside to listen to relaxation music while keeping water out of your ears Without further ado, let’s just lie down inside Blue lighting creates a futuristic feel In case of emergency, press the red button on the right To turn the machine on, press the green button on the left The hatch of a capsule closes automatically It takes 5 minutes for the water to fill up It’s a very good warm water You basically need to wait outside until the water fills up But I lay down first and then pressed the power button It worked also in this way though After water fills up, press the blue button to start “human washing” You see the projected monitor More water will be added depending on your body size It starts a heart rate sensor Once you press the blue button, it takes 15 minutes for the washing to be completed During the first 5 minute session for relaxation, you see the virtual beautiful scenery to clean the inside of yourself Gentle washing without detergent, using “fine bubbles” to avoid scrubbing It’s like a milky bath Even those with atopic dermatitis like me can use this human washing machine with no problem I feel like I’m living in the future A sci-fi movie ambience from the 60s to 70s After 5 mins, it starts spraying water containing fine bubbles Water sprays come from all directions in the capsule It’s very very refreshing The angle and strength of the spray can be freely changed by directly adjusting it with your hand The waterproof performance of my iPhone 17 is about to reach its limit But I believe he can do it more The heart rate displayed seems to be mine in real time, but I don’t know how accurate it really is… Washing is now over While I was bathing, my electrocardiogram was monitored by a sensor on the back This is the results My average heart rate was 54 and I was right in the middle between “Active” and “Relaxed” To open the hatch, press the blue button again The inside of the capsule turned blue again I’m REBORN After a long period of hibernation It’s like that It would be perfect if they could wash my head and dry my body after all this But nothing is perfect It was brilliant It’s my father’s turn next Enjoy the human washing machine! There is also a sauna It’s extremely hot Saunas have become incredibly popular in Japan in recent years And there is a unique Japanese sauna culture Drinking “Oropo” “Oropo” refers to Oronamin C(energy drink) and Pocali Sweat(rehydration drink) Pocari Sweat has an effect of promoting the absorption of nutrients into the body, and when you take Pocari Sweat and Oronamin C at the same time, it’s gonna be a perfect nutrition intake and rehydration Usually, they mix Pocali Sweat and Oronamin C in a two to one ratio in a glass and drink it We can tell he is now enjoying the human washing machine very much It’s Comfortable But what is this? Oh, he is moving inside Like an Alien wriggling inside an egg He is also being REBORN He looked deeply moved, as he has fond memories of attending the 1970 Osaka Expo Supplies placed here are all high quality We had a very very pleasant and comfortable time I’d like to thank this hotel very much for deciding to install this human washing machine He likes night walks in town very much and is now trying to find a good western bar near here But he got the weather forecast instead Next, he got information about bars in Nagoya, not Osaka He finally got info about nearby bars, but didn’t like any I don’t know anyone who uses Siri better than him We haven’t found a good bar yet, so we go to an Izakaya(Japanese style) bar restaurant first The nearby area is perfect for a night walk during a hotel stay It’s a very chaotic but fun The most popular area in Namba is definitely “Dotonbori” Dotonbori is the Osaka’s most bustling shopping district, with a river in the middle There are tons of people here all day, but most of them are tourists from overseas So most restaurants are tourist-priced, so it’s a little difficult to find a good restaurant I luckily found a good one By the way, even though I was born and raised in Osaka, the futuristic feel of Dotonbori is always inspiring Welcome to “To-tto-tto” izakaya restaurant Here, you will first draw a fortune slip on your chopsticks I got “Daikichi” which means “excellent luck”! If you get Daikichi, you can get a sticker of this restaurant for free This Izakaya serves Robatayaki style, where you order your favorite ingredients and they grill them over charcoal in front of you Before we went to the grill, we ordered some hot Oden Oden is a winter hot pot dish having ingredients like boiled eggs, radish, konjac, and processed fish balls in soy-flavored Dashi broth They also serve delicious fresh raw fish Grilled bacon and grilled Onigiri(rice balls) We waited for this Green onions and pork skewer in sweet soy sauce-based sauce with a raw yolk Tsukune skewer(chicken meatball) They are too delicious A shrimp skewer One shrimp skewer costs 800 JPY/5.6 USD but it’s worth it Mushed potato with raw yolk and Ikura(salmon caviar) Tastes so rich My father loves beer, but he only drinks a set amount because he made a mistake in the past Japanese winter cities are filled with steam from cooking, warming our bodies and souls We finally found a good bar in a red light street Oh, not a hostess bar It was so difficult to reach here Bar Untrace It is a hideaway for adults The owner is a young man in his 30s and a former member of the Japan Self-Defense Forces His handmade vintage style paper menu I ordered “pomegranate” POV: You are at a bar in Japan. He trained for 10 years before running a bar on his own I somehow think that the rigorous training experience he underwent as a member of the Self-Defense Forces is now a good part in his work as a bartender Pomegranate cocktail topped with dried pomegranate and its leave Drinking a fresh cocktail is very memorable Especially when you hear the story of the bartender At a random convenience store on the way back to the hotel Please please 12:30PM Good morning I was surprised to find that this hotel was surrounded by so many apartments I’m a little scared of fires here Breakfast fee is 1,000 JPY/7.00 USD There are salad, fruits, bread… fried dishes, stired noodles, chickens, and grilled fish Self-serve miso soup Rice Let’s make Ochazuke (rice with dashi soup and some ingredients) I usually hardly eat breakfast, but how can I eat such a large amount at a hotel? One of the mysteries of the human body Drinking orange juice and milk is said to be the best combination in the morning According to a coach of the baseball team I was on in elementary school What was a bit funny is… They play mood music from YouTube, but sometimes the ads play loudly in the hall He is off to work I’m grateful to him for helping me with shootings By the way, this hotel’s parent company is an Okinawan company (Okinawa is a Japanese Hawaii) Again, thank you so much for buying the human washing machine and letting us to experience it, Dotonbori Crystal Hotel III It was a very eye-opening experience But I don’t afford to buy one, sadly There are so many duty-free shops here that I feel like I’m in China or Korea The last amazing sight I saw in this area This amount of wiring is crazy Let’s lastly enjoy a boat ride on Dotonbori River The boat going under 9 bridges on the river Bye bye to the world’s first Ferris wheel with a horizontally rotating gondola It’s about a 20 min ride And this “Tonbori River Cruise” costs 2000 JPY/14.00 USD per person Each bridge across Dotonbori has its own unique characteristics, which are explained in Japanese and English You will be the center of attention and become popular in Dotonbori when on this boat By the way, Dotonbori is an artificial river that was built 400 years ago It was built almost in a straight line from Osaka Bay and served to transport supplies to Osaka Castle This is why the area along Dotonbori has become this prosperous The name Dotonbori comes from the fact that it was named by a man named Doton Even a restaurant clerk is waving hands at us! We are entering the center of Dotonbori This bridge recreates the scene of Okonomiyaki(Osaka food) being cooked on a hot plate All the large illuminated signboards are symbolizing Osaka very much I’ve never ridden this boad before, but I don’t regret paying 2,000 yen Dotonbori seen from below is more impressive than usual Today I learned something new as a person born in Osaka We use Kote spatulas to cook Okonomiyaki See the railings of the bridge They are Kote! Wow One more thing Try Kinryu Ramen in Dotonbori area It’s a Tonkotsu(pork bones broth) ramen that has been around here for 43 years Tried, tested, and true ramen with a light tonkotsu soup Being simple is the best Tonkotsu soup, noodles, green onions, Char-siu porks Firm and thin noodles Free toppings of Kimchi, chives, and minced garlic! Thank you for watching the video, as always Let’s do Rock, Scissors, Paper… 1 2 3 Rock See you in the next travel!

Today, we are trying the world’s first hotel that incorporated a “human washing machine” which was introduced twice in 1970 and 2025 Osaka Expo. Just relax and enjoy the video!

  1. The human washing machine is a fantastic piece of spa technology for relaxation! It was great to see you and your dad experience being “reborn” 😅. I am always fascinated by Dotonbori in your YouTube videos because of its lively crowds and riverboat tours. Thank you for sharing your video, TG! 🙏

  2. The sauna with the rehydration drinks also helps to sweat out smells that come from the food you eat. Very useful for gaijin to sweat out the meat fats. Japanese say that gaijin smell like butter and that is the least uncomplimentary phrase the Japanese use for the smell of gaijin.

  3. Your Dad is the best! What a fun man! I bet you two would be a hoot to have a drink with!

  4. Thank you for the lovely video. That "breakfast" for $7 looked like a great bargain. It would have kept me full all day.

  5. So, the human washing machine gets you clean with only water? No body wash or soap or anything? I would want the feeling of using body wash to feel fully clean! Plus, it does nothing for your hair. It’s quite underwhelming, to me.

  8. It doesn't look as pleasant as I had imagined. I was expecting more of a serene experience like a float tank but this seems uncomfortable overall.

  9. 15:20 COMP
    LETION
That was actually the funniest part. (No native speaker of English would break up that word in that way.)

The “human washing machine” is more like a dishwasher, given how it sprays water around. Come to think of it, I do remember seeing that thing in your video of the Osaka Expo.

17:47 If I were your dad, I’d be writing the message backwards on the glass…

And how come your dad speaks English so well?

36:03 “Dōtonbori is an artificial river, that was built 400 years ago…” Isn’t that a canal, then? The Ebisu pedestrian bridge, with its “spatula” design, is very cool.

If I were in Dōtonbori (the area), I would definitely drop by Lord Stow’s and get some Portuguese egg tarts—they’re not Japanese, they’re not even Portuguese (they were invented in Macau)—but they are totally delicious. (But the food at To-tto-tto looks really good, too.)

  10. This thing doesn't clean any part of you!!! No soap? You are going to come out just as funky as you went in! 🙄😒

  11. Also, I understand that I guess it’s normal for a bunch of people to bathe naked in a same room, but it is just super creepy that a dad and his son are basically taking a bath together in the same room

  12. A "soapless bath" sounds like a fit for a nursing home, hospital, or other medical facility.

However, I'd be more interested in "lay down" tub that lets me relax and not hurt my neck! 😀 If I ever have to replace our tub I'll take a lay-down walk-in tub, thanks!

  13. If it doesn't wash your hair, you can't really call it a human washing machine. (honestly, disappointing😔)

More like a human disinfector (excluding hair), I guess.

  14. For the YouTube music playing in the hotel while you’re eating breakfast… I’m surprised they didn’t choose a subscription of YouTube so that you could skip the commercials. Particularly in busy place of business you wouldn’t want your customers to have to listen to advertisements. The subscription price is only $18.99 a month which would be worth it for a business.
