24 Hour Food Tour in Nagoya | misokatsu, ogura toast, hitsumabushi
名古屋
nagoya I have 24 hours in Nagoya and I am going
to explore and eat some local delicacies 🙂 i am going to have my first meal
– unagi rice at the JR station 🙂 located in “Nagoya Umaimon Dori” 📍Maruya Honten Japanese eel restaurant known
for its speciality dish – Hitsumabushi waited around 35 minutes for a table
during lunch time on a weekday Hitsumabushi
(3,350 yen) “Hitsumabushi” is a Nagoya’s speciality
– unagi (eel) grilled in kabayaki style on rice. “Three ways to eat Hitsumabushi” the first way is to eat the original version ohhh savoury I could taste the grilled unagi original flavour,
crispy on the outside but the meat is tender now I want to try the second way of eating add seaweed, shiso, negi, wasabi mix 😱😱😱 I love it !! the condiments enhanced the flavour, it’s so good eel liver soup this is eel liver it does not have much flavour lol is like tofu texture tsukemono to cleanse the palate 🙂 oops I realised I should have mixed
everything up from the beginning sorry for my messy bowl I am ready to try the third way of eating ☺️ for the third one, we need to add dashi broth the broth dilutes the flavour a little,
but it creates a very clean taste I quite like it but my favourite is the second way of eating 🙂 gochisousama desu 🙂 it was a great meal to start my Nagoya trip this 6.1m tall mannequin is Nana-chan she is an icon in Nagoya usually she is dressed up nicely
but today she is very plain looking haha taking a bus to explore Nagoya Nagoya has a chill vibe 🙂 this pig is another Nagoya icon it is the mascot of “Yabaton”, a restaurant
specialising in Miso Katsu – pork cutlet in miso sauce I am planning to eat this tomorrow 🙂 Osu Shotengai (Shopping Street) Osu Kannon (a Buddhist temple),
is 1 of 3 kannon (guanyin) temples in Japan other two is in Tokyo and Mie prefecture the amount of pigeon here 🤯 apparently because visitors can buy feed for them
so that’s why there are so many around here 😂 7.08 PM teleported to Paris 😎 kidding, it’s Chubu Electric Power Mirai Tower
, formerly known as Nagoya TV tower this was Japan’s first steel tower
for radio waves completed in 1954 the water reflection of the tower is so pretty 😍 the random mist makes it 10x magical Oasis 21 Spaceship-Aqua it’s free to climb up (14metres from ground) I wonder what’s like at the top ready to find out? it’s the TV tower from another view 🥰 nice. time to go for dinner 🙂 📍Menya Shishimaru this is one of the top 100 ramen shops
on tabelog every year since 2019 just a few minutes walk away from Nagoya station bad thing is had to queue
for about 45 minutes to get in 😰 better be good 🙂 I am getting a lobster ramen (their specialty) I am hungry and excited here we goooo Lobster Ramen
(1,100 yen) although it is lobster ramen, it does not include
a lobster inside (I am aware about this) it is actually “Ise Ebi (Japanese spiny lobster) broth” let me taste it wowwwwww 😱 the broth has a rich umami flavour from the lobster their noodles is thin type, which I like it is said to be handmade using Hokkaido wheat flour their noodles is one of the better ones that I had it is perfectly cooked to my liking
– on a softer side but still springy the meat is just okay the soup is the main star finished I really want to finish the soup but I held back 😀 getting supper before checking in for the night 📍Sekai no Yamachan this is another Nagoya specialty – fried chicken wing pricing about 1 dollar per wing secured the goods :)))) hotel for the night Meitetsu Inn Nagoya Station Shinkansen Exit 13,000 yen per night for double bed room the bathroom and toilet is separated !! not only that no need to stand on bathtub to shower!!!! I wish all Japan hotel bathrooms are like that hahaha nice facing the road view I shall go shower and eat the chicken wings 😋 wings time! even the box says Nagoya’s favourite tadaaa 5 for 660yen it smells good their wings are seasoned with lots of spices and peppers it is so flavourful, peppery and salty you can choose the spice level and I chose standard spice peppery type of spiciness but the meat is very little, is skinny wing great as a snack nice seasoning but I would prefer more meat going for breakfast with my friends 🙂 I am excited for breakfast today
because of Nagoya’s breakfast culture at most cafes here, ordering a drink
before 11am will get you a free toast or egg sounds like a super good deal 😆😆 here we are 📍Tsubame Bread & Milk oh no.. we got a queue number and
have around 70 groups in front of us.. we had to wait roughly 2-3 hours 🥲 which means we won’t make it in time
for the breakfast service 🙁 since we had to wait, we decided to have early lunch first does the pig look familiar to you? it was the pig we saw yesterday 🙂 Yabaton this is the shop that specialises in miso pork cutlets Premium Rib Tonkatsu
(2,000 yen) the tonkatsu is drenched in their special miso sauce comes with rice, tea, lotus root and miso soup I am ready to eat 🍽️ although drenched with lots of sauce,
the skin is still crispy and the meat is so tender maybe because it’s the rib cut the sauce is quite salty but goes super well with rice 🤤 I found an upgraded way to eat this which is adding mustard !!!! the mustard helps to lightens
the heaviness and balance out everything super goood thank you pig for your delicious contribution! super full now but time for “dessert” 1.27 PM we are back at Tsubame Bread & Milk! finally in it was really almost 3 hours wait 😨 their bread here looks so good the breakfast service is over, but we still can order toast honestly, the entire shop smells
so good like freshly baked bread 🍞 can’t wait to try Nagoya’s Ogura Toast
(490 yen) fresh cream, butter, read bean egg this is sooo good everything goes so well together and not too sweet I am not even a red bean lover but I like it my iced coffee is here (around 600 yen) not bad but nothing wow (682 yen)
Thick Cut Butter Toast looks delish 😋 honey omg so good I cannot decide which toast
I like more because both are so good the bread is so soft and toasted perfectly,
we finished everything even after a heavy pork lunch it was a perfect after meal “dessert”
to end our Nagoya food adventure 😇 back at Nagoya station
Finally Nagoya! 4th most populated city and also the “most boring city” in Japan 😂😂 There are so many icons and local specialities that make the city “unboring” though
