Can You Survive? Japan’s Brand-New 21-Hour Ferry Journey in the Rough Waters (Kyoto to Hokkaido)
I’m taking the brand-new Shin Nihonkai Ferry, Keyaki, from Maizuru (Kyoto) to Otaru (Hokkaido). Due to the low pressure system, the high waves are expected.

How disappointing that most things were closed because of the rough ocean/weather. I do hope you complained about the condition your room was in when you arrived; it was unacceptable. You paid a lot of money for that room. Looked like it had been missed by the cleaning crew. It is a beautiful ferry and I hope you were able to enjoy some of it.
Well, that was interesting, a not-so-neat room, but at least it was clean. You must have slept through breakfast, or the ferry's pitching may have prevented the restaurant from opening. I will admit it looked like one of the rougher crossings you have had, but not by much. Then, to arrive in SNOW!!! YUCK!! Brrr!!! Well, I hope you kept warm there and see you on the return trip.
I get sea sick, motion sickness. I use “Sea Bands”. No pills. They work great and you don’t have to put them on in advance. I still wouldn’t have enjoyed that trip. Tanks for taking it for me. 😂😂
Wow !!! impressive. btw are you the only one on the ferry feels so lonely 🙁
what is average occupancy on these ferries? they look so empty!
So the saloon is closed for safety, but the outdoor deck is open? HAHA!!
Always enjoy ur videos, watching from North Carolina here in the US.
Think they have toothbrush holders in colors. 😅
Your room was disappointing – I’m sure some staff had slept there and poor Housekeeping, take the blame. I remember looking at an Apartment that had been ‘showcased’ and it was obvious that the Concierges etc were using it to sleep! Don’t blame them!
I'm only at 08:12 — I'm guessing those are to stand your toothbrush in for further use!
Wow, that's rough. Unlike my sibling and all my cousins, I'm not too prone to motion sickness, but I'd have had a rough time on that one!
The screen room was indeed cool. But combined with the motion, I'm surprised it wasn't nausea inducing.
18:41 — Oh good, I was afraid you wouldn't feel like eating. Maybe I better watch a bit more….
… Oh, that looks really good. And you ordered extra rice!
24: something: Large rice. Not large enough!
28:00 Wow, snow even.
Thank you for the video, STJ-san. I do watch a couple of your rivals but your videos are the best.
Do take that ferry again, but when the weather is better. Maybe the suite, so you can try the Grill?
Women's bath is on the other side
Sorry, meant to add fine for a staged apartment, absolutely NOT fine for bed and room someone’s paid good money to sleep in and expects clean, hygienic environment!
Our traveling man never lets us down. Thank you STJ.
amazing trip and delicious food
👋DOMO🙏 SOLO 😎💚💚💚
My blind grandmother makes a neater bed 😂
some little waves and everything is closed? damn ….thats hard to explain…
I would be on the phone to guest services immediately. Unacceptable, especially on a new ship. If they are unprofessional in housekeeping, I would question the sanity standards everywhere.
I suggest instead of being one of the first in launching, time seasonal weather conditions should be considered when promoting venues. Of course on your behalf on open ocean especially when seasonal weather is not in your favor. Do well in your ventures…take care my friend 🧡…
😂😂 yeah I took the ferry from Placentia, NL to North Sydney, NS. 16 hours running ahead of a storm. I walked the halls like that. Fun trip, not. She looks like a nice ship otherwise. Needs stabilized better.
No no no I would be terrified. It’s not you can’t see nothing and I would be sick as a dog.
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too
'Twas the witch of November come stealing
When I’m on rough seas I like to use my level on my iPhone just for fun to see how far our pitching and rolling is.
"What should I eat ?"
Curry and broccoli of course 🙂
Sunflower would have ordered the sea to be calm😮
Why is the ship empty
❤❤
I hope you remembered your C sickness medicine this time I remember the last rough voyage you had you forgot it and you were probably hugging the Porcelain preacher that whole voyage
I love that screen room! I’m so sorry. your first trip on this ship went this way, but It does look like a really nice new ferry! 😊
All right that makes me feel old I actually knew the name of the tune she was playing in the atrium it's called moon river
Barely 300 passengers, the ferries here in the Nordics usually take 2500-3000 passengers so I worry that a Japanese ferry would feel like a ghost ship to me, but I definitely want to try it at least once. 😀
Japan is so well organized. Clean and efficient. And affordable.
Dude I know a way to make your motion sickness medicine more potent and that is after you take it take take 2 shots of hard liquor hard liquor will actually increase the powerfulness of the medicine
When I saw that band play Moon River in the video… im just glad it wasnt My Heart Will Go One from the movie Titanic. LOL
I would not survive the day, but at night I would probably sleep well.
At 9:35 that carpet is aweful, it gives the illusion of steps so I could just imagine with the ship swaying so much it could throw someone off and they could fall.
I got seasick just watching………
5:30 it's always nice to see japanese accomodations having new TVs, recently the hotel chains i frequent have also updated their TVs and airconds to newer ones
i hope they revamp their bathroom as well
Watching the balcony curtains swing around really gives the viewers an idea how rough the seas were.
STJ it’s good to see your unstoppable appetite wasn’t affected by the waves. Thanks for sharing.
