NAGANO | The Perfect End To Our Japan Trip! 🇯🇵
Good morning everyone here from Tokyo. So, this is going to be our final video in Japan. We’re just at Tokyo station right now. We’re going to get on the Shinkansen bullet train to Nagago, a place that we never been before. So, Carol’s just with Kyo to get the tickets. I’ll let you know how much it is soon. Always very chaotic the train stations in Tokyo. And it’s going to be our first bullet train in Japan of this trip. Even though we’ve been here like a month, somehow we haven’t been on one yet. So, we got the bullet train tickets, 8,540. And the train is only in around like an hour and a half time. So, we’ve decided to come to this food court place to eat. I got something a bit different cuz this is beef tong. I think there’s some miso there and some other kind of pieces of beef. That was 2364. also including this green tea. And Carol got a bento box. Yeah. Salmon and a bunch of other stuff. But yeah, I think this was 1,200. Cheaper than mine. Yeah. Yeah. It looks good. The texture of the tongue doesn’t really seem that different to normal beef. It’s tasty, though. Is that some chicken there, too? Yeah, I think so. So, a lot of protein. Also the Japanese omeolet. Oh, that’s an omeolet. Yeah. Little rectangle. So, our train is going to be the one that’s coming next. Not sure what kind of bullet train we’re getting on this time. The model. How many have we been on in Japan? Just one? Only one, I think. So, okay. So, second time in Japan, but we’ve been on quite a few in Asia before. Even one time in Morocco. So, we’ve arrived at Nagago station now. Took about an hour and 25 minutes. I think by bus would take over 4 hours. So, a lot quicker. It’s actually quite chilly here. Didn’t expect it to be this much colder than Tokyo. Feels around 18 19°. I need to get my hoodie out. Carol’s got this already. You bought that in Japan, didn’t you? Yeah. Yeah, cuz here they have the like tax-free thing, which is really easy compared to other countries. Because some other countries you you pay for the full value and then you have to request for the tax free. Yeah. But here you just show the passport at the store at the store and they give you the the 10% discount. So that’s really handy. Yeah. I don’t remember that last year. No, they recently changed it. So it’s a new thing. Yeah. You’re going to have more foreigners buying things now. Good for business. And we’re staying right next to the train station. So that’s convenient. I think it’s just like a minute down this road in front of us. So, here we do the check in at the machine. I think the machine gives you the room keys also. Oh, yeah. Oh, you’re there. That’s cool. Don’t think we’ve checked into one like that before. So, we’re going to be here for two nights overall. This room is $70 a night. A pretty small room. All the rooms that we’ve had in Japan so far have been pretty tiny. Haven’t even seen the bathroom yet. At this time, it’s all together. Sometimes they separated out. I always have a bathtub since it’s a bit cooler here. Maybe I’ll have a warm bath. It’s almost like a cruise ship. Cappy the size and the layout. Yeah, it does kind of seem like that. And then check out the views. Got some of the nice mountains. And we will be heading up there in this video. We’re going to go to this place with lots of monkeys, too. So, that should be coming up soon. A big thanks to the sponsor of this video, Incogn. They have a really userfriendly dashboard which shows you the removal requests, which ones are pending and how many have been successful. Click on the link in the video description and use our code jumping places which gives you 60% off on the incogn plan. So, we’ve come to the snow monkey park now in the mountains. We ended up getting the express bus. Takes 50 minutes and that was 2,000 per person. So, some of you may have seen the famous pictures or videos of the monkeys chilling in the onsons, the hot springs. When it’s snowing though, right now it’s not snowing. I think in a couple of weeks it’ll probably start snowing. But I think we still get to see the the monkeys either way. Although I don’t know if they will be going into the hot springs right now. It is cold. It’s around 10° C. But I think it has to be colder for them to go in the water. There’s this sign at the beginning. The monkeys have not yet come to the park from the mountain. So fingers crossed that they’ll come down. I actually thought it was guaranteed that they were always around the hot springs, but I guess not. Water coming here. There. There’s a steam, so I guess it’s hot water. Yeah, there is steam, isn’t there? Don’t know if you can see that on the camera there. As always, Carol’s getting the coffee to charge up. It’s the perfect weather for a hot coffee right now. Also got a apple pie. It’s really tasty. 880 yen. I haven’t had an apple pie in ages. So, the trail is about 40 minutes. So, even if we don’t get to see the monkeys, at least it’s a nice walk. What’s that saying? Don’t feed them. Yeah, I was pretty sure already that you wouldn’t be able to to feed them anyway. It’s a nice house. I wonder if these are the onen scar. Yeah, I think so. I think there are many different ones around here, but I think most of them is the same thing that you need to stay there to visit there to use it. To use it. Yeah. So, I didn’t expect to see this here. We’ve got a a gizer or a geyser or a gazer, however you say it, depending what country you’re in. The sign back there said this is a rare one cuz it’s continuous. Yeah. I think the ones that we saw in like Bolivia and Iceland, it’ll be kind of like little eruptions. Yeah. From time to time, but this is all the time. So, we’ve entered the part where the monkeys would usually be. It’s 800 per person. The guys are pretty good, though. that are selling the tickets. They do tell you that there’s little chance of seeing the monkeys. A lot of places in the world probably wouldn’t even tell you that. They just want the the money. So, he said that October is not really a good month. I think last October they didn’t have any monkeys coming down from the mountains. The best months are the really cold months of like December, January, February when it’s full of snow. I don’t think they have any food in the mountains, so they have to come down. And then yeah, they’re also warming up in the the pools. So, we have to be real lucky if they’re going to appear today. Yeah. Yeah. I think uh two or three days ago they were here and then we saw the the reviews of people with pictures of them. But I guess we would have to be very very lucky to see them today. But we still decided to come since we are already here. It’s still nice to come into the paid part anyway cuz you’re seeing the the waterfalls. I guess this is the pool that they’d normally hang out in at the end. Guys, no way. We have spotted one monkey. I don’t know if that means he’s going to come down. He’s in that tree right here. One of them. That’d be crazy if we get lucky. Yeah. Can you see it on the camera? Like just a little bit. Waiting for him to move. Heat. Heat. Yeah, I think that this is probably one of the luckiest moments on our travels. Like we said, it was literally almost impossible that a monkey was going to come down today right here. Only one of them eating a lot. Yeah, he’s been eating for like 30 minutes non-stop. And we didn’t even have to wait that long. Only about 30 minutes. I think we actually almost left 5 minutes earlier and then spotted it. There was a family and they were here and then they left like five minutes before the guy the guy in the family arrive. Oh, he’s going back down for more. So when we bought the tickets here at the entrance, the guy that was selling the tickets, he said, “Oh, you’re probably not going to see the monkeys.” And he gave us this saying, “Sorry, we are very busy.” He was sorry for us, but I guess we are lucky. as well. Yeah, this monkey wasn’t busy. So, the guy said that that is a male monkey. When the male monkeys grow up, they’re always alone. It’s the female that sticks around with the families. So, apparently that’s normal to see one on its own like that. So, now we’re going to head into the onson and warm up. I think that’s the name of the the onen there. Kura Kukan. We only just realized looking back across the river how amazing the the trees look. Beautiful trees. It’s like the Twilight movie. Yeah, that’s what Carol was saying. The woods. The woods in Twilight. So, there’s like two onoms. The indoor one, I think you have to be naked for that one. It’s in there. I didn’t film it cuz there is a guy in there. And then there’s the outdoor one. I’m pretty sure that guy was also naked in this one. Yeah. I’m not sure because he he was here before, right? Yeah, he was here before. But this one you’re allowed to wear clothes. And this one is shared. So male and female. Nice temperature. Yeah. Yeah. Very good. I’m so happy. Oh man. Yeah, that is really nice and warm. Perfect. Got a great view, too. So, it’s of that geyser that we saw before. And the river, too. Waterfalls. Kind of surprised it’s only us in here right now. I thought it was going to be packed. Even the park is empty. Yeah, I don’t see anyone walking into the park anymore. So, is this your first onen? Yes, first. Very good. Nice. Very good experience. So I read online that in the past uh the monkeys used to come to the ones like this one or the others in town. We would be like here and then the monkeys would be just staying close to us and then they would poop inside the water. So uh that’s why the the locals here or the the government decided to create that one that we just went which is only for the monkeys. So the monkeys are supposed to stay there and then people can come to the other ones and not and don’t have to swim or just be here with monkey poop. Yeah. You don’t want to really be swimming in in monkey poop, do you? I think they still come around here though cuz the guy at the entrance said if they appear, don’t look them in the eyes. Don’t try and stroke them or anything. So they do still come down sometimes. Not here right now, though. Wonder what this rope’s for. The water’s going down there. So, where the water’s coming out, it’s absolutely boiling. Can barely leave my hand there. So, we’ve had this kind of hot spring experience a few times in cold weather. Last time in Japan, but also in Iceland. Iceland was really amazing, too. It’s also a volcanic place. And in Bolivia, I think in Bolivia, we were like 5,000 meters high, weren’t we? In altitude. Yeah. And I just remember we also had this very similar in the Himalayas after the Anapuna. Oh, yeah. In Nepal. Yeah. In Nepal, that one was beautiful, too. Really nice. It was a bit like this. Yeah. Yeah. And it was very relaxing because it was after the long long hike. So he was amazed. Yeah. But it was similar to this one cuz it was on the river, too. All right. So, nobody’s in the indoor one now. So, it’s just a tiny space. How’s the temperature in this one? Better. Very hot. I don’t think you have to be naked in here. We checked the rules on the on the front. They didn’t say anything about that. Guess it’s just optional. All right. I’m getting into relax now. Yeah. Yeah. Uh at the end I went in the the private one that was only for women or only for men and then I was like there relaxing and and then I stood up and then I almost fainted. Got a bit dizzy. Yeah. Yeah. Because I think the blood pressure was low and then but nothing happened. But yeah, I think we spent about an hour in there. Overall, I just love how it looks. The wooden style more authentic. The ones that we’ve been to before in Japan, I guess, looked a bit more commercialized, like businesses. This looks like a nice cabin in the woods. I think the family’s been here for hundreds of years from what the sign said. So, it is the next morning now and we’re in downtown Nago. Going to show you a bit of the city center. This is one of the main walking streets. At the end, there’s a famous temple. I think that’s where pretty much everybody’s going right now. seems pretty relaxed from what we’ve seen so far. We’ve been here about 3 days. It’s not like a busy city. And you can probably see that the weather is super nice today. So, it’s showing that it’s going to be around 29° C. I didn’t expect such a jump from yesterday. It’s like a 20° jump. It’s going to be a really nice day to see the temple. We walked up here the other night. really good shopping street. The white buildings and this is the entrance to the temple complex. Buildings are extra beautiful. So when we came here at night the other day, they have these lanterns that are all lit up. So that’s nice, too. You’re just not able to go to the main temple at night. It’s closed. It’s quite the difference compared to the other night. Yeah. Uh first the number of people cuz there’s a lot of people now. The other day was very empty and but also now the the stores are open so you can see many like souvenir shops and also the the sweets that they sell the food. Yeah. So when we came here around 5:00 p.m. everything’s completely shut. wasn’t even that late, but they already closed everything. I think the temple closes around 5:00 p. p.m. And it’s also a a Sunday today, so Oh, yeah. It’s a weekend. Extra extra busy. Probably got a lot of people doing a weekend trip from Tokyo. It’s probably one of the nicest streets that we’ve walked down in Japan, though, for the old style village buildings. This one has a really cool statue. says that it’s the original site of Zenoji’s main hall was located here from 644 to the 1700s was burnt down several times. So in the 1700s they moved the main hall over there which you can see in the distance. I’ve bought many uh souvenirs already, like not many, but like five like small ones, but I keep wanting to buy more and more. There’s so many nice things to to buy. Yeah. Each city that you go to usually has different souvenirs also, so kind of makes you want to buy more. My backpack is exploding. Yeah, Kaio and Karina, they bought a lot since they’re going back to Brazil. Yeah, we don’t buy a lot of souvenirs cuz we don’t really have a home base, nowhere to put them. So, the ticket is 1,200 per person. Gives us access to four different places, including the main gate. It’s the first time we’ve come up a main gate at a temple in Japan. Usually, you can’t come up. So, we got some nice views here. That was the main shopping street that we just came up the entrance. Good thing is you’re going to get some real nice views of the the mountains now, the backdrop. Yeah. So, I guess the ticket means that we can access these other ones as well, the other temple buildings. That’s nice there with the bridge. Yeah, absolutely beautiful setting. It reminds me a bit of Kyoto because of the mountains as well. Yeah, I think Kaio and Karina are going to be going to Kyoto soon. Yes. Next, not the next stop, but two stops from now. Okay. This is the last place that we’re going to be traveling around together. They’re going to be 2 weeks more in Japan, visiting the places that we have before. Nada, Osaka. So, that’s the main hall right there. Yeah. Don’t So, we just went in this building behind me, which is a museum. You’re not allowed to film or take pictures inside. It’s just a small museum, two two floors, but lots of amazing statues and paintings, hundreds of years old. And we also couldn’t film in the main hall before. They had the monks there chanting the prayers. So, it was a really nice experience, too. Also looked really cool inside. And now we’re heading to the fourth and final place, which I think is something to do with scripture. Pretty sure these are the sake barrels. Seen them before. Some cool artwork on that one. Also really nice here. The shot of the main gate where we began. Once again, we couldn’t film inside this temple, but they were chanting again. Just have to come yourself to experience it. Carol’s been using this old school camera this time. Yeah, just to take pictures of us. And yeah, I think I’m going to get it. How do you say head? I don’t know. Get the pictures. Yeah. When I go to Brazil, but maybe I’m going to share some in in on Instagram. Fujifilm. Next to Zenoji Temple is the Yoshinoya Saki Brewery. The cool thing is that you can do some free saki tasting and compare the different varieties that they offer. It was established in 1637 and was owned by the temple. They also have a self-guided museum where you can see things like the machinery and old photos of the brewery. So definitely recommend visiting this place, especially since it’s for free. This is the final video of Japan for this trip. Once again, we’ve absolutely loved exploring the country, and we will definitely be visiting again in the future. It’s easily one of our favorite countries in the world. Even though some of the touristy places like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka can be overwhelming, there’s still many hidden gems throughout the country. And the next time we visit, we will try and visit more off thebeen path places. If you like the video, just drop a like as usual to support us. Subscribe to see more videos like this. Alongo Island / Cebu….1st day….so far…so….
(Carnaza Island / earthquake – I went under a large solid wood table)
(Cebu city / Typhoon Tino – from the 5th floor of the hotel I watched the street sewers jet water upwards)
Hope the monkeys are good natured .
Have smaller ones here , cannot let them in .
Wow 😳 Japan is so wonderful. Safe journey to the next destination.🎉
It was a real pleasure watching the Japanese series. Hope you had scrumptious food there.
Hmmm 'Home base ' !! No place for souvenirs ? 🙁
Get a small storage locker , or stash with family .
When you get the home base , you have them all over . Easier than watching videos :-)_
the 'no video /pictures' is sensible , come visit , see for yourself 😉
Certainly not crowded .
Sake tasting , hold me back 😉
You do not have to go far from the cities to see another Japan , as you have seen .
Once you have spent a few days in a major city , job done .
Head for the hills .
This is the Japan my wife and I would love. Tokyo is fine, but we are no longer city people.
Nice places
🇨🇦👍❤🇯🇵
Looks so peaceful there. God bless you both and keep you well. Enjoy!🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🌹🌹
Thought you guys will be on a cross-over with " Gabriel Traveller" who is in the Fukuoka area. 😢
