I Took Japan’s Cheapest $25 Ferry… And Slept in a Shared Room 😬

In this video… Hi everyone 👋 This is Taiyaki 🐟 How are you doing? A luggage wheel is lying on the road😂 Looks like it’s going to be a lucky day. Right now, I’m at Kokura Station in Fukuoka. I’m heading toward the north exit on the Shinkansen side. From here, I’ll take a bus to catch the ferry. There’s a sign here. The bus terminal is one floor below. I thought it was here, but… It was actually over here. This bus is free if you’re boarding the ferry. There are quite a few passengers on the bus — almost full. It takes about 35 minutes from Kokura Station to the port. There it is! This is the Meimon Taiyo Ferry terminal I’ll be boarding from. We’ve arrived! Today’s ship is called “Ferry Kitakyushu II.” Let’s head inside. I bought my ticket through a campaign, so I’ll pick it up at the counter. This ferry ticket only cost 3,800 yen — the cheapest room though! It’s a great deal, but I’m also a little nervous about what kind of room it might be 🤭 Time to board! First, I’ll head straight to my room. This is my room for tonight. This is my space. The pillows are quite decent. Here’s the blanket. And the futon — super thin 😂 Two power outlets. A hook. A storage shelf — surprisingly deep. Bed-making complete! You can really see how thin the futon is lol. My sleeping spot for tonight is ready. There aren’t many people now, but more seem likely to come later. There are a lot of passengers today — even the restaurant already has a long line. I stepped outside. Another Meimon Taiyo Ferry is docked nearby. Here’s what the port looks like. Unlike the Ocean Tokyu, this ship has a wide deck — nice to walk around. It’s departure time! People are waving 👋 And now, the 13-hour journey to Osaka begins. I can see the Hankyu Ferry docked over there. I’m having dinner at a restaurant tonight. Dinner and breakfast set costs 2,300 yen. Cashless payment is available. It’s so crowded… Oh no😅 No place to sit… It’s a buffet-style meal with good variety. Udon bar. Desserts. Drink bar. This time’s harvest😏 By the time I noticed, it was completely full. I grabbed a mix of meat, fish, and vegetables. The food was actually pretty good — worth paying for, I’d say. Matcha warabi mochi. Candied sweet potatoes. Almond jelly. Still a bit hungry, so I grabbed some fries. Not the prettiest plating lol. It was noisy and crowded that day, but if you want to save money, bringing your own food might be a good idea. A beautiful sunset seen from the ferry. The sky looks totally different between the sunset side and the opposite — really fascinating. Whoa, the wind is way too strong 😧 When I came back to the room, there were way more people than before lol. By the way, when lying down, it looks like this, so there’s no feeling of being cramped. It’s still early, but I’m going to sleep now. Good night 😴 …Can you hear that? I woke up because someone’s snoring was too loud. As expected, earplugs from Tim are essential in this kind of shared room. Wake up time, Mr. Bird. Today’s socks. This is a beckoning cat design. It’s easier to see when I turn this way. I couldn’t film much yesterday because it was crowded, so I’ll do a ship tour now. This is the shop. It’s closed right now. Here’s what it looks like when it’s open. They sell cup noodles, snacks, toiletries, souvenirs, and more. I might want one Myakumyaku Goods Ice cream. That’s my uncle 😏 On the same floor, there’s also a game corner. Myakumyaku lying there like a corpse. This is the vending machine area. There’s also microwave here. You can find vending machines for drinks, cup noodles, and ice cream. Last night during dinner time, this area was packed — no seats available. The ferry has Wi-Fi, but it’s limited by time and location, so don’t expect too much. Relaxation area. Next to it is the restaurant. Here’s the price list — dinner alone is ¥2,000. Alcohol costs extra. Kids’ space. This ferry also has a large public bath. A new towel rental service is now available. 400 yen Here’s what the bath area looks like. Shampoo and body soap are provided. There’s also a women’s powder room and a nursing room. Let’s go up one floor. This is the “First A” private room area. I’m so jealous! Another Relax Area This one has ocean views — an observation lounge area. These sofas look comfortable. Smoking area. Let’s take a look at the ocean at night. It’s pitch dark — you can’t see anything. All you can hear is the sound of the waves. We’re in the Seto Inland Sea now. The waves are calm, but the wind is strong. Let’s go up one more floor. Still can’t see anything 😂 The wind is so strong it feels like my hair’s going to fly off. This 8th floor seems to be the suite and deluxe room area. It says “Do not enter,” so I’ll stop here. That’s it for the tour of the ferry *Kitakyushu II*. The next morning. It’s breakfast time. Breakfast is served from 4:30 to 5:10 a.m. — pretty early. If you can’t wake up early, don’t buy the breakfast ticket. Unlike dinner, the breakfast selection is quite limited. Drinks include orange juice and coffee. Here’s my breakfast selection. Since there weren’t many choices, this is all I got. The taste was okay, but honestly not great due to the lack of variety. Still, since breakfast alone costs only ¥500, you can’t really expect much. Before I forget, I bought a *Gosen-in* (ferry stamp). The letters sparkle. It’s around 5:20 a.m. now. We’re about to arrive at Osaka Port. You can see the wooden ring structure of the Expo site. I didn’t end up going to the Expo, but did you? Meow 😺 My impression: even the cheapest shared room is tolerable for one night 😂 Since I got it on sale for just ¥3,800, the cost performance was great. This time I took the *Ferry Kitakyushu II*, but I’d like to try another ship or room type next time. That’s it for this video. Thanks so much for watching until the end! Until the next video, I wish you all the best! Eat vegetables!٩( ᐛ )و

I traveled from Fukuoka to Osaka on the “Kita Kyushu II,” a ferry operated by the Meimon Taiyo Ferry.
I stayed in the shared room (economy class), but since I booked during a special campaign, it was an incredibly low price of 3,800 yen. I also reviewed the dinner and breakfast.
I recommend this for anyone wanting to enjoy a leisurely ferry trip from Kyushu to the Kansai area. Please watch until the end!

  1. 🐟I wouldn't recommend the breakfast. This room is fine if it's cheap, but I'd prefer a private room lol.

  3. Wow. This one is an interesting one. 😐 I get traveling on a budget, but I think I would put out the extra $$ for a private room and bed.

Great video, as always! Can't wait for the next one!

  4. Lovely weather on this trip 😊 I agree you deserve a room upgrade. Getting up so early for breakfast yet it wasnt worth it thats not cool lol ❤❤❤

  5. I took it once with the dinner and breakfast buffet included. i ate too much and made sleeping difficult. how do you find out about the special campaign?

  6. As I sleep very badly even in best conditions (my own bedroom, everything dark, no noise, no light, no other people, with fresh air), I would probably not sleep for a second in this kind of shared room you had on the ferry. But for beeing so cheap, it does look quite okay, especially as your "bed" is on the wall, so a little bit more private than the other sleeping places. The futon is indeed very thin.

P.S. the dinner buffet looked quite good, but the breakfast buffet was very limited
