Only in Japan you find this farm stand without any shop stuff. Can’t believe it. We call this Hanjo which literally means the farm stand without any shop stuff. They sell some vegetables and fruits. It’s based on trust and honesty. Something deeply valued in Japanese culture. Recently there have been some reports of theft. So a security camera has been installed here. This kind of system really exists thanks to Japan’s incredible safety.
You won’t see them much in the central areas of Tokyo, Osaka, or Kyoto, but if you go to the countryside or suburbs, you’ll often find unmanned farm stands like this near fields.
They sell freshly harvested vegetables and fruits, often much cheaper than supermarkets.
That said, theft isn’t completely nonexistent, so in recent years more of these stands have started installing security cameras.
If you ever visit rural Japan, try to find one of these!
