japan diaries: traveling to kyoto by bullet train | april 2025
[Music] contract. It’s bullet train time. This is the local train bound for 1. Tokyo is arriving at track number. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. I’ve arrived in Kyoto. Um, and I’m just on my way to my hotel to drop off my big bag. But it’s already a lot busier here with tourists, I feel like. Or maybe that was just to Kyoto station. But uh let’s see. Let’s see what Kyoto has to offer. number. [Music] I think he does. Although he does more contraction. [Music] And the main thing I’m going to bring is Foreign speech. Foreign speech. Do you guys see this? I’m wearing my sunglasses and no jacket, short sleeve. It’s nice and breezy. It’s like properly warm here in Kyoto. And I might even wear a dress tomorrow. Although I’m not entirely sure with all the shrines I want to visit if that’s appropriate or not. I see differing opinions online, but it’s more about how comfortable I’ll feel. So anyway, that’s a problem for tomorrow, but at least today I’m going to enjoy this uh sunshine. First observations of to of of Kyoto are that there really are a temples or shrine on every single street corner. It’s kind of crazy. And in the sun, everything is lovely. And it seems like once again, there’s very busy areas like in Tokyo. And then you just have to kind of find your way out of that and find Yeah. the quieter areas. So, let’s see if if I can do that. This is a cute street. the bushes here and like the landscaping in general is incredible. Like they’re really like shaped like little fluffy clouds. I love it. I actually met a guy in Hakon. we got talking and he was actually Swedish but he had been living here in Japan uh close to Tokyo for about 12 years and he was a landscape artist. So he had a landscaping business or has a landscaping business uh here in Japan and he would visit Hakon for just to be out in nature and away from the city but also to gain inspiration which I thought was pretty cool. Like imagine he spoke Japanese as well, which is super impressive. I guess that’s really difficult to learn. I can’t imagine like moving here and starting up a landscaping business. I wonder if he had to learn the rules as well of like how a Japanese garden is made, but I didn’t ask him. So anyway, I love the bushes and the trees here. They’re very well groomed. I don’t know. [Music] This is your [Music] I’ve checked into my hotel which which is really nice. I haven’t showed you guys, but I think I’ll do a tour at some point, like in the next five nights, cuz that’s how long I’m staying here. But I feel all refreshed and pretty tired as well. It’s been a long day starting with the bullet train and then exploring Kyoto. I really like Kyoto so far. It’s really beautiful obviously with like a temple or a shrine on every corner, but at the end I went to a soba noodle place for dinner where um I was really surprised because I had found this place on Tik Tok and someone had said that there’s probably going to be like massive queue uh but that while you wait in the queue you could get a wine from the wine bar around the corner and I was Take off. [Music] [Music] She said this was like her favorite sober noodle place in all of Japan. So, I went there and I was looking for a queue. I was like, “This place [Music] [Music] and a little kiosk or window where you could order. And I’m like, is that the place? There were like two people in there and it was the place. So, I went in. I didn’t have to wait at all. Like, I could order straight away and it was delicious. Also, the guy the guy behind the tail where I ordered uh asked me where are you from? Uh and then he said he said that I had have the most beautiful eyes he’s ever seen. Stop it. What? I got all shy and weird about it. So, it’s whatever. But, um yeah. So then I took the bus back to my hotel to actually check in. My hotel is a little bit outside of everything, although Kyoto is a little bit more spread out anyway than compared to Tokyo for example. And they use buses a lot more here. So instead of let’s say the subway. Um but yeah, had a really nice shower and going to have a good sleep. All right. Bye-bye. [Music]

Very nice! Please keep making more videos. I’m a fan of your work — I’m from Kyoto.
Nice that you managed to see Kyoto at such a pleasant time, and with the cherry blossoms in bloom! Just a few weeks later and the summer months would have been oppressively hot. 🥵 And without a breeze to be found! Also, I can assure you that your view of Mt. Fuji from the Shinkansen (1:20) is typical of that time of year… and 90% of every other day. 😂 Even when all around is brilliant and clear, Fuji-san itself will often be shrouded in clouds with only hints of its base visible. That you were able to see the entire mountain (even through the haze) was quite an accomplishment. One time I managed to see it from the (long gone) restaurant car, and that mountain was so impressive it was nearly a religious experience. 😮
日本を楽しんでくださいね!
I recently started my YouTube channel 🎥✨ I post travel and camping videos, and I’d really love it if you could take a look and share your thoughts 🙏
