Foodie Day in Osaka, Japan | E25 “No Preservations” | Travel VLOG | Pinpoints
I’ve said it before, no two days in Japan are ever the same. [Music] Stop. Not today. The first time I came to Japan was the winter of 2001. That was pre- internet Japan when tourists used tour books to navigate Japanese cities. It was hard for them to find little gems like this on their own. My ex-wife was native Japanese, so fortunately, I learned all these spots. This is Shinsukai. It’s a small neighborhood resting under the Sutenkaku Tower. It’s modeled after New York’s Coney Island and still has the feel of old Japan from 25 years ago when I first came here. A lot of games, a lot of beer, a lot of food. Like this place where you fish and catch your dinner. She’s learning early to take care of herself. I’m grateful I was able to see the old Japan, but if you get away from the touristy areas, neighborhoods like this can still be found in every city. You just have to look. As Anthony Bourdain said, just move. A young lady at a coffee shop told me to check this out. It’s about a 5minute walk from Shinsikai. It’s a Pringle store. [Music] Snacks downstairs, t-shirts and novelties upstairs. Interesting. [Music] My last food stop today is the famous Corman Market. [Music] I only learned about this place in 2023 when my kids and I visited Osaka. It’s all about street food and fresh seafood. I’m hitting all these spots and just nibbling my way along. But you won’t see me eating much on this trip. This is still my misogi. 45 days of limited conversation, limited interaction, and limited food. Just coffee and silence, and an occasional cigar. But that is my sushimi he’s cutting. [Music] [Applause] [Music]
I travel to a less visited touristy food spot in Osaka, the Shinsekai District. I spend the morning eating lightly before heading to the famous Korumon Ichiba Market for sashimi dinner. I’m not full, but I’m good!
