Travel to Hokkaido and Asahikawa zoo | Japan Day 4

Got an early morning today. We have a six o’clock flight. We did stay basically in the airport. That helps out quite a bit. Um flying to Hokkaido. Uh we’re going to we’re going there for the national park, but today we’re going to see the uh the zoo and uh check out AIA. Oh, we cut our flight closed. Security took forever and then they didn’t let my walking stick thing. They want me to have that on the flight, you know. Yeah, I understand. Me with that thing pretty deadly. So, I had to go check that and we already run late. Did a little bit of airport running, but we’re here with about 5 minutes to spare. Hey, after running to the airport, we had about 5 minutes to spare. Yeah, 5 minutes. And the parent says, “I’m going to grab a water.” I just wanted a cold drink. Yeah. And you got I got I got Emerald Mountain Blend coffee. Coffee? How do you feel about coffee? I’m not going to open this can. Me neither. It’s cold though. We don’t like coffee. It’s cold. Maybe I’ll What do you If you open it up, you have to drink it. This will be my third coffee ever. They’ve all been in out of out of the country, so I think you drink it. That went poorly. Tink dink dink. I’m not going to drink it right now. I don’t want to open that can. It’s a liability. All right, we landed out so the most interesting part of the whole flight. We never showed our ID to get on the flight and I got the stick with me. Unbelievable. Uh, now we get a little short shuttle ride to get our um rental car, which I’m nervous about because you drive on the wrong side of the road here and we’re basically illiterate. So, it’ll be an interesting experience for that alone. Just got our little rental car. It’s a cute little thing. It is. I don’t know what it is. We got the shuttle thing. Was super easy. Boom. The desk. He’s like, “Okay.” And then they just gave us a ride. It was nice. And then full explanation of the car. We had to watch videos on driving signs and stuff. Yes. Wow. And so they remind each other constantly where we’re going to, you know, which path because all it takes is a little because I am driving. Yeah. She’s she’s on the wrong side. Driver. I’m I’m just worried about autop kicking in and just turning into the wrong way. Just how you’ve done it mean how I’ve done it many times. It’s be traffic is not bad. It’s a lot it’s feels like a small town. So, but we’re a little hungry. Yeah. Our first 7-Eleven. [Music] All right. We are at the Asa Adake Zoo. We’re going to go check it out. It should be pretty fun. Becky did a good job driving. His bum bum. Oh, here we go. We are first checking out the birds that fly. So, it’s a caged environment. Flamingos actually have a tiny femur. And this is their ankle that looks like their knees backwards. What did you enjoy about the ducks or the birds? Well, the flamingos. There’s three kinds and they were up close. They were pretty to see. And I really enjoyed watching the ducks hunt after the dragonflies. That was funny. Yeah, that was cool. And I also enjoyed looking at all the different plants that they had and the cool trees were neat. Penguins were fun. The tunnel was a highlight. Really neat. The different Oh, now there’s an out part that we haven’t even seen, but the indoor part was really neat. And we got to see them from different angles. Wow. Different size of seals. Some of them are huge. [Music] Show dad. We enjoyed watching the seals get fed. And look at that. A little bit of a show. Becky hit the jackpot. I saw not one, not two, but three red pandas and they were moving. Oh no, four. One was just kind of hiding against the door in the corner, but one was pacing. Kind of sad actually now that I think about it was going across the ladder above us. The other one did it at once. So, that was cool. That was so cool. And uh they were they were quite active, not just a little bit. And now we’re going to check out the fierce animals. Have no idea what we’re in for on this one, but I’ll try to keep my heads inside the designated area at all times. Big cats are pretty interesting. trying not to get sprayed by urine, which they did not spray anybody, but it was a concern. And the male and female leopards in separate cages were quite interested in each other. So, that was kind of fun. [Music] This is a raccoon dog. [Music] Found a little rain. [Music] [Music] going to come over. [Music] There you go. [Music] That’s pretty much [Music] There’s a lot to see at the zoo. Uh what we thought be a couple hours turned out to be several hours, but we enjoyed looking around. Becky’s doing great. Doing it. Look at the marolds on the road. Well, look at the marolds on the road. She says we will enjoy lots of interesting houses. We’re noticing uh kind of a twostory I would say two and a half story with barns. Yeah, they all have a barn. They all have a little barn. So, some of them are shaped a little differently than that one, but yeah, lots of miraolds out there on this side of the road. We’re figuring out the street signs and we’re doing good, aren’t you, Becky? We’re just concentrating a lot and talking a lot about which lane to pick and trying to help out without being annoying. But she’s doing good. Time for an amazing room reveal. This is going to be great. Oh, it’s so dark. Okay. Are we not sure how to Did you Oh, put your key. Yeah. For the light. That’s not it. Okay, I’ll turn the flashlight on. Nope. It’s okay. I got it. Hold on. Hold on. Okay. This a little challenges sometimes. Huh? Okay. Is there a light somewhere else in the world? There’s a step over here. It’s a strip. I demand a room with power. Wow, it’s a big bed or two small beds. It’s dark. I think I have it. Well, good. And we’ll go ahead put the key in there. It’ll give us power. I’m turning it all on. Why don’t you put the key in? Then starts lighting up. Yes. Excuse me, sir. You got it. Oh, I’m wearing my shoes like an idiot. Well, I did. I would have tripped terribly without my shoes on. Anyway, oh, what are those two? Oh my goodness. This is a little toilet area. Oh, wow. Look at that sink. It’s tiny. Oh my. Like a giant. What’s that? That’s a bigger sink. Little uh I’m trying. Is that the shower behind you? It looks like it shower room. This is weird. It’s a tiny uh towel. Oh, never mind. This is a towel here. A light for the shower. Just think it’s not dark enough. There we go. See if the bed’s soft and assume that it will be. I’m still carrying your back. No. Negative. Okay, this will be where we’re at for two days. We probably won’t trip over this every time, but we probably will do that again. There’s only one pair of shoes here. That’s weird.

Join us on Day 4 of our Japan adventure as we fly to Hokkaido for an early morning start after a brief airport stay. Despite a chaotic security check and a last-minute dash to the gate, we made it to our flight with just five minutes to spare. After landing, we tackled the challenge of renting a car and driving on the “wrong side of the road” in what felt like a small town, navigating with the help of instructional videos and constant reminders. Our main destination for the day was the Asahiyama Zoo, where we spent several hours exploring. We enjoyed watching flamingos, ducks hunting dragonflies, and the playful penguins, especially the tunnel highlight. A particular highlight was seeing not one, but four active red pandas, and we also observed seals during feeding time, big cats, and raccoon dogs. After a full day, we head to our accommodation for an “amazing room reveal,” navigating a surprisingly dark room and discovering its unique features.
