Ohama Beach, one of Japan’s Top 100 Shores and sea turtle nesting site on Amami Oshima.

On Amami Oshima, I visited Ohama Beach—selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Shores for its natural beauty of blue sea and white sand—and the adjacent Amami Marine Exhibition Hall.
Amami Oshima is home to many endemic and endangered species and was designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2021.
Ohama Beach is also a valuable nesting site for sea turtles.
