if you’re in Japan and love matcha take a day trip to the matcha capital Uji With the current matcha shortage will we be able to buy any matcha Let’s find out Just 30 minutes from Kyoto Station our first stop was Nakamura Teichchi Matcha was sold out but we sampled some nice sencha and hoji cha We heard some locals buy matcha from grocery stores so we popped into an appro and grabbed a few matcha treats and some super cheap matcha Worth a shot Next Sujiri Uji Again sold out But get this we tried matcha beer and a dessert platter at its cafe That roll cake and beer Incredible At Ken Bayashi Shuno finally matcha success We secured its mid and higher grade tins one per person We took a matcha break at Hohoo Hochisha for its tea flight Castella cake and iced hojicha latte So good A must Now for a hidden gem Matsu Sakaya Located right beside the well-known Hori Shishom This charming tea store is run by a sweet elderly couple They gave us a mini tea ceremony and we were able to purchase some of its mid-tier matcha So good We wrapped up with matcha soba and parfets at Suen Tea House the oldest tea shop in Japan Then a quick stop at Fuku Jin Uji for their free tea exhibit and ended the day crossing the beautiful Asagiri Bridge Matcha or not Uji’s charm stole the show So
