A National Treasure, Hikone Castle’s three-story keep has been standing tall for over 400 years looking out over Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. The keep with 18 decorative gables might give you a deceivingly elegant impression, but the castle was an extremely well planned unassailable stronghold that had defensive devices and traps hidden everywhere.
