The WORLD’S MATCHA CAPITAL!
This is the matcha capital of the world. Japan’s most premium green tea was born here 800 years ago. It’s so elite that it’s graded like fine wine. Shogun samurai sip matcha in this very place. Every shop sells something made from matcha. There’s even a matcha ice cream vetting machine. Of course, we had the famous matcha p with this tranquil scenery. The most loaded p we’ve ever had. Holy moly, that matcha cream is next level. This is where you’ll find a legendary 170-year-old tea house that once supplied the Japanese imperial family with matcha goodness. How good does this matcha look? Be sure to try all their matcha dishes. Then walk it off and cross Japan’s oldest bridge. Wander down streets that look like this. And stop to make a prayer at the UNESCO World Heritage Ujigami Ginger Shrine. The oldest shrine in Japan that’s been around since 1060 AD, which also happens to be the Guardian Shrine for this jaw-dropping temple. Oh my gosh, it’s beautiful. Cross the river, soak in all the scenery, and look down to spot the Pokémon manhole. If you want to get away from the Kyoto crowds, come to Uji. It’s only a 30-minute train ride from Kyoto. So, if you’re a matcha lover, add it to your Japan bucket
Don’t go to central Kyoto. Take a train 30 mins from Kyoto Station and come to Uji instead 🍵🇯🇵
📍Uji, Kyoto, Japan
This is the birthplace of premium grade matcha and we have Uji to thank for bringing the world the best matcha out there and getting us all hooked.
If you need to get away from the intense crowds in Kyoto’s centre, come here and have a matcha-filled day. The scenery is breathtaking and the food is delicious, definitely one of the best places to visit in Japan if you’re a matcha lover.
