Hidden Water Town in Rural Japan | Local Train Trip to Gujo Hachiman, Gifu | JAPAN TRAVEL VLOG

Good morning everyone, this is Mona😊 I’m in Gifu Prefecture today. The deep green scenery is so soothing🌿 My destination for this trip is Gujo Hachiman! Gujo Hachiman is a rural town rich in nature, surrounded by mountains on all sides. Also known as the “Water Town” and “Little Kyoto,” the town’s pure water and charming townscape are its main attractions. Before heading to Gujo Hachiman, I’ll take a little detour. I’ve arrived at a place I’ve been interested in for a while. This is a historic shrine where legends of defeating Yokai (Japanese supernatural creatures) remain. The chirps of cicadas. The murmuring of the river. I can feel the summer. Wow, those magnificent cedar trees! This area is cool and comfortable. This is a hidden spot near the shrine. I can faintly see a rainbow. What a mystical place this is. It feels as if I’m being completely embraced by nature. My tired soul is being recharged. I’ve arrived at Gujo Hachiman Station. I’m captivated by the retro atmosphere. The station building is apparently designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. A charming shopping street that somehow feels nostalgic. There are carp in the irrigation canal along the road! Everywhere I look, the scenery has a quaint atmosphere. Now, let’s have lunch. This is a popular restaurant along the Yoshida River. I was guided to the second floor. I can hear the murmuring of the river. Cheers🍻 Wow, I’m so happy♡ The tender Hida Beef (Wagyu Beef) and sweet and spicy Miso (Japanese fermented soybean paste) are very delicious! Now, let’s take a walk Gujo Hachiman😉 It’s so beautiful. A beautiful color, like a blend of blue and green. The water is incredibly clear. This is the irrigation canal that runs behind the private houses. Many carp and river fish swim here. The gently flowing water is soothing. Wow, that Sushi look delicious! In fact, everything here is a food replica. Gujo Hachiman is a town famous for its food replica manufacturing. Amazingly, it is said to boast the highest production in Japan. It’s really hot!🥵 Let’s have something to drink. This is a cider made with natural water from Gujo Hachiman. I also love the packaging design featuring a traditional dancer. The “Gujo Odori” dance is held here in Gujo Hachiman from mid-July to early September. With a history spanning over 400 years, it’s registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. I’m looking forward to the night. Let’s take a short break. Wow, so charming♡ This Japanese cafe was converted from an old Japanese house. You can enjoy Japanese sweets made with luxuriously rare Gifu Prefecture matcha. The dancer drawn in matcha is beautiful🥰 Not too sweet! The elegant flavor of matcha fills my mouth. I had a relaxing time. It will be evening soon. The kids are enjoying playing in the water. It’s so peaceful. Oh, it’s so cool and refreshing! This is the spring water that symbolizes Gujo Hachiman. It was selected as the first of the “100 Famous Waters” by the Ministry of the Environment. It’s a townscape where I can almost hear people saying “I’m home” and “Welcome home” from somewhere. Wow, so cool✨ I can enjoy a panoramic view of the castle town. It’s about 350 meters above sea level. Let’s go inside the castle. Gujo Hachiman Castle is the oldest wooden reconstructed castle in Japan. For a long time, only the stone walls remained, but today it stands as a symbol of Gujo Hachiman. I can feel the unique charm and history that only a wooden structure can offer. The view from the top floor is also beautiful. Now, let’s head to today’s hotel. It’s a very clean and simple hotel. It has excellent facilities, so it seems like I can spend comfortably. The long night in Gujo Hachiman is about to begin. Wow, what incredible energy! Gujo Odori has a history of over 400 years and is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Resonating festival music. The sound of wooden clogs. The venue is enveloped in a fantastical atmosphere. It’s a true symbol of summer. Good morning! Since I’m here, let’s take a morning walk. This path, bustling during the day, is very quiet in the morning. Let’s try feeding the carp. A lot of carp have gathered. Let’s give some food to the little fish, too. The water town is beautiful again today♡ I’m going to have an early lunch. This is a popular restaurant that always has a line. It’s a place I’ve always wanted to visit. The Tempura is hot and crispy! The Udon has an incredible chewiness. It was so delicious, I can see why it’s so popular😋 A wooden cable car — a rare sight even across Japan! I’m taking this to get to the entrance of the limestone cave. Wow, it’s even colder than I imagined! The adventure begins. A beautiful underground world. I can feel the mystery and history of the Earth. This is a 30-meter waterfall located in the deepest part of the cave. It is said to be one of the largest underground waterfalls in Japan. It’s a mysterious feeling, like peering into the interior of the Earth. This channel brings you unique travel experiences in Japan.
