What’s Hiding Behind Japan’s RED Gates? #japantravel #traveljapan #shorts

In Japan, Tory gates stand quietly, mimicking invisible doors to another world. You’ll find these crimson gates nestled everywhere beside busy streets, hidden forests, or silently floating on water. Dating back over a thousand years, the Tory gate symbolizes a passage from the everyday world into sacred spaces. Originally marking divine dwellings, the gentle reminders of the harmony between us and nature. You’ll find in Hakone mist curling softly around a lakeside Tory gate or in Kyoto’s Fushimi Anari where thousands of gates weave endlessly uphill guiding pilgrims and dreamers or on Miaima Island where the Tory gate appears weightless suspended gently above the tide. When you pass through one next time, consider whether you are leaving something behind or discovering something entirely new within yourself. Like, subscribe, and join me as we explore Japan.

  1. Wandering all alone (some stray cats aside) through the thousand gates in Kyoto at midnight was scary, but weirdly comforting. One of my favorite memories of my time over there.

The one on Myajima Island is absolutely majestic.
Even got to walk through it when the low tide hit.

And on Tushima Island I managed to get a piece of one that I found near a cliff, which was torn down (due to it being to brittle from sea air, I suppose) as some sort of charm.

I really got a lot from them.
