What Does The DREAM TRIP to Amalfi Coast REALLY cost? (FULL Cost Breakdown)
The Amalfi Coast is plastered everywhere from luxury travel magazines to social media feeds and it’s not uncommon to see some of the world’s richest people on holiday here. Now, I’m normally more of a budget traveler myself, but four glorious days on my honeymoon. I surrendered to that dream and paid for everything from fancy restaurants to private boat hires. And today, I’ll be showing you the real numbers behind every single thing we paid for and whether or not it was worth it. All to answer the question, what does the dream trip really cost? Let’s get started. [Applause] [Music] The biggest expense on your trip is going to be accommodation for sure. The Amalfi Coast is home to some of the fanciest and most mind-blowing hotels I’ve ever seen in my life. And the price tag is infinite. We actually only decided on our travel dates a few weeks before leaving for the honeymoon. So, unfortunately, we didn’t have a heap of options to choose from. So, definitely book as early as you can. Our requirement for hotel room was we wanted to stay in Positano. It had to actually be a hotel, not an Airbnb with breakfast included. And we wanted a balcony with a view of the Amafi Coast. Oh boy, did we get it. But to get something that was a little more reasonable price-wise for us, we got one that was like further up on the cliff, and it’s called Five Positano. It’s amazing. I don’t know, guys. We just got here, and I’m already I’m just beside myself with excitement. I cannot wait, but I’m prepping for the high prices in Positano. In total, we paid €1,116 for four nights, which actually I think is a pretty good deal for Positano. But since it’s higher on the cliff than most places, I’d only recommend it if you can figure out what to do for transportation. So, it feels like the biggest problem you have to solve every day is access and transportation. The towns are built on some of the steepest cliffs you’ve ever seen and also spread out along a huge coastline. Your options are either private driver, car rental, scooter rental, water taxi, taxi, or catch the bus. They come with very different price tags and as we soon discovered a lot of different pros and cons. From Naples airport to Positano, we booked a share car transfer with one other family. Is that going to make it to your blog? And this one wasn’t so bad. It was actually only about €50 per person, so not too bad. The drive-in was a little rough. I got very carick cuz it’s really windy. Also, the drivers in Italy are very uh not necessarily like aggressive to other drivers, but just like aggressive with the brake and the acceleration. On our first morning, we decided to catch the bus down, but unfortunately Oh, you’re joking. I’d read about this online that the buses just get filled really quickly and that sometimes you just can’t get a seat. All right, guess walking. Let’s do it. The walk down was absolutely beautiful, though. So, I didn’t mind it so much in the end. Pretty sure we came from like the other side of this mountain. Oh my gosh. [Music] Could it be could be proof that we are heard a lot about the crowds of Costana. It is crowded definitely but it is beautiful. Most streets are filled with adorable little souvenir shops, cafes or restaurants and the views are incredible. I’m just trying to get a bit of cash out. It’s going to take like €3.90 just to get cash out. Cate, right? Cate. Private beach clubs are something that’s heavily associated with the Amalfi Coast. Got paid paid paid free paid paid. So just how much are they exactly? Full package thing. You get lunch, you get drink. Oh €200. 350 for two people. Euro for two people. Damn. They’re not all this expensive, but as an Australian, I just don’t have it in me to pay for a beach. But to each their own. For lunch, we just went with the quickest thing we could find, which ended up being a sandwich and a cowzone. I don’t even know if cowzones are Italian. I feel like they’re an American creation. Yeah, I don’t know. So, I looked it up and it actually is Italian. The more you know. We decided to try for the bus one more time. This time going up the mountain. And somehow we actually managed to get on at €150. It might be the cheapest thing that we bought on this trip, but we paid for it in other ways. We knew we knew ahead of time. We all knew it was going to be busy. Everybody’s just on the bus. Everyone’s just sweating. It just feels very like disorganized. Everyone’s like trying to push to get on the bus. It’s not It’s not like the best environment. Starting to feel like maybe Posanana isn’t for me. It’s very It’s just very very crowded. Everything is exacerbated by the fact that it’s a very hot day today. So, we’re going uphill at the moment because we’re heading to a very famous hike called Path of the Gods. Well, runs from Positano all the way over to Pryano. Getting a bit tired already. It’s fine. It’s fine. It’s free. [Music] It’s really, really hot in the sun. It’s one of those like 34 feels like 37 kind of days. I love our hiking outfits. Not our not our usual hiking attire. Go for a little more cute little I’m on the Amalfi coast. [Music] It takes about 3 to four hours to hike and it’s not too intense, but the views are amazing. You’re ruining my very cinematic moment right now. You okay? We’re just walking by in there. I was like, “Oh, wow. He’s got berries.” I guess he says in Italian, “Do you want one?” All right. Yum. I haven’t had mulberry since I was a kid. Oh, it’s taking me back ratatouille style. We used to have a mulberry tree in our backyard. Considering this is a free hike with some of the best views we saw on this trip, I would 100% recommend doing this hike if you can manage it. After a pretty decent dinner at a restaurant that’s practically built into the side of the cliff, it’s kind of amazing. We actually managed to get the bus back and this time it was actually really nice. So overall, buses offer a pretty inconsistent experience, but at least they’re cheap. Taxis are about €60 for a 15-minute drive and renting a car can be really difficult because there isn’t really a lot of parking. So the next day after greeting the local cats, of course, we decided to just bite the bullet and rent a Vesper instead. If you look up advice online about like renting a scooter on the Amalfi Coast, everyone will tell you that it’s a terrible idea. The roads are extremely windy and the cliffs are almost vertical. So, I was pretty scared at first, but so far driving with the scooter on the coast is amazing. It’s so beautiful. I would say it’s like if you’re first time ever to ride a scooter here, don’t do anything. But if you have experience, just be aware. just be a little bit alert and then I think you’re good. Yeah, I think just like taking the corners really slow, be really cautious when there’s a bus coming cuz they’re so big and they don’t they don’t care. They take charge of the road for sure. It’s a 45minute drive to get to Amalfi, but with all the stops we took to look at the view. It probably took us about an hour instead. Wow. Yeah, I’m I’m really glad to not be in a bus right now. I hate to say it, but this is much better than catching the bus. Eventually though, we made it to a town called Rell, which is kind of like up on the mountains uh just past Emi. It is lovely here. Just delightful. It like just feels very romantic and lovely and beautiful. The main attraction for us in Rell outside of Delicious Gelato, of course, was to visit Villa Simbrone. Villa Villa Bron, I don’t know how to pronounce it. Anyway, it has already exceeded like my expectations. It’s so so deliciously beautiful. Oh my goodness. from my pieces. My pieces show the time and conversate by the flow. The real reason we wanted to visit these gardens is because it was featured in a little movie called Tenant, which is actually the first movie that we watched on our first day. It’s like even it’s way more beautiful. I just don’t believe it. Yeah, I need to be standing there. I have to stand there. God bless. This is where we grow. This is our reation. Entry to the gardens was only €10 per person and it actually ended up being a huge highlight for us. Overall, Rell was so so so beautiful and next time I visit, I think I might want to stay here instead. Another benefit to renting a scooter is that you get to go to places that public transport can’t take you to, which means that you’re in less busy areas and also cheaper kinds of places. So, we found this one just on Google Maps, and it’s actually really cheap, surprisingly. Which brings me to the next big expense, food and drinks. In a tourist hot spot like the Amafi Coast, it’s not surprising that the food is pretty hit or miss. Pretty much always expensive, but a lot of the time you’re paying more for the view than you are for the food. In the main areas at a mid-range restaurant, you can get pasta for around € 20 to €30, a main meat dish for around €30 to 40, and alcoholic drinks range from €10 to €20. Actually, some of the worst food we had was at this like exclusive restaurant that can only be reached by private boat. The was €26 and it tasted like fish food. It was so bad. I don’t recommend it. Uh, but apparently JLo ate here, so I don’t know. Means something to someone, I guess. The best food we ate was the lemon ravioli and a creamy prawn spaghetti, both from restaurants in Priano. Unsurprisingly though, if you move away from the tourist hotspots, you’ll find things that are a lot more affordable, like this restaurant. Honestly though, the food here was pretty hit or miss. Aranchchini was amazing. The pizza was not so good. The fish was tasty, but it still had bones in it. Food on the Amalfi Coast is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get. So, for everything in this trip so far, we’ve been paying for everything full price on our own. Of course, it’s our honeymoon. However, there is one thing on the itinerary that I uh I may have pulled the influencer card on. That is a private boat tour around the Amalfi Coast. This is like one of the top things that people recommend that you do. However, it’s also usually one of the most expensive things that people do. So, we’ll see. We’ll see if it’s worth it. I’m going to let you know. We ended up booking with PDG boat tours and we decided on a full 7-hour tour, which is usually the most expensive option. [Music] Tours like this can take you all along the Amalfi coastline that gives you the best view of some of the most beautiful hotels in the world. And you’ll also get to stop along the way at private beaches, cliffsides, and smaller towns. Stock me, Jack. I really hope this footage looks good because it’s amazing, but it’s really bumpy. So, for a little bit. The itinerary is entirely up to you and you can pretty much stop anywhere you want for a swim. We really wanted to see the Emerald Grotto. And while it was a very cool cave, it’s only possible to visit in a guided group. And the actual attraction was pretty small. It’s definitely smaller than I thought it would be. I don’t know if I would really recommend paying the €10 per person to go in, but I’d give it a miss next time. We also visited Amalfi again, but honestly, next time I think I’d just spend more time on the boat and swimming at private beaches, cuz that was my favorite part by far. Overall, I really do have to say that I understand why there are so many boats on the Amalfi coast. It is the best view by far. Wow. From the water, you can see so much more of Positano and Priano and like all of the different towns. Amalfi as well. It went too fast. I wanted to stay off for longer. And now the big question, how much did it cost? Private boat tour on a boat of that size. 7 hours along the coast. It is normally €800. quite a big chunk of the budget and the price just keeps going up and up and up depending on how big the boat is and how many people you have on it. So you can do like group trips of a similar kind of thing that we did like all along the coast for 7 hours and that’ll be like less than €100 even. Those ones I think could be excellent value for money, but the only problem with that is that you’re sharing the boat with probably about 10 other people and you don’t get to choose the itinerary. It’s probably already set and the times are already set and everything. So having the flexibility was really really nice. Whether or not it’s worth it for you will just depend on how deep your pockets are with our our lovely discount that we got from that company PDG Tours. It was worth it for us. That was amazing. I have no notes. No notes. What a beautiful place. I don’t want to leave. This place is so pretty. [Music] For our final day on the coast, we wanted to take it easy. So, we just rented a scooter and took a trip to Fioro de Fioro de Furor. I don’t know how to say that, man. Surprisingly, entry was free. And it was absolutely beautiful. Boats aren’t actually allowed to stop in here, so the only way that you can reach it is from the road. I highly recommend visiting if you can. So, over 4 days on the Amalfi Coast, staying in Positano, living the dream. We spent in total €3,266 and some change, which comes out to €560,000 Japanese yen. We truly did pick the like the worst time exchange rate wise to travel to Europe. It was woo. But all in all, looking back at everything that we did, I still think that we did pretty well. Like you could easily easily spend double what we did without even really thinking about it. If we stayed at a slightly nicer hotel that’s further in town, if we bought drinks every now and then, even though I knew it going into the trip, I knew it was going to be expensive. I was like, “It’s fine. Just go with it.” I think we both still subconsciously would order the order the cheapest thing on the menu or like not order many drinks or we’d always be like, “No, sorry. I don’t need water. I’ve got my water bottle.” Honestly, I think this trip really taught me a lot about my own relationship with money and how I just can’t I don’t know how to spend money. How do you spend money, people? Anyway, the big question is, was it worth it? Honestly, yes. 100% it was worth the money and maybe even a bit more. Like, I I would 100% pay that again to do this trip again. It was amazing. I would do a few things a little bit differently. I might stay in a different area. I definitely rent a scooter every day. But yeah, I would definitely pay that again. And like most tourist things around the world, be it Japan or Italy, it is popular for a reason. And I highly highly recommend visiting. So what do you think? Is that a lot of money to you? Is it not much money to you? It will highly depend on like the currency that is normal to you because yeah, exchange rates doing like crazy things at the moment. Um, and in Japanese yen, it’s a lot of money. I’ve got another video from our honeymoon where we went to the Doommites. That will be coming up soon, which I’m also equally as excited for. I don’t know which one was more beautiful, a Maui Coast or the Doommites. Ah, it was so pretty. Ah, everything. Everything. Italy is truly crazy. We had an absolutely amazing time. If you want to see more stuff like this, behind the scenes bonus videos, I have a Patreon. I’ve just uploaded a short video from our trip to Shanghai when we were on our way to Italy. Um, and also there’ll be an additional video from Lake Como where we visited all the Star Wars locations. Ah, it was so exciting. So, if you’re interested in that, go check out my Patreon, patreon.com/currenly Hannah. I have a travel guide to Japan. If you’re coming to Japan, you’re probably watching this video traveling to Italy. But, I have a Japan travel guide. I’ve got two of them. Go check them out. And there’s Instagram and, you know, all that other stuff. But yeah, thank you so much. Oh my god, my stomach just rumbled. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed it. And I’ll see you next time. Bye. Why did I do this? Since when have I like wiggle wiggled my fingers?

We went there in June, and even the girl renting the Vespa's was told us not to rent it because it's too dangerous, lol. Took it anyways and it was epic ride and traffic was totally fine.
Damm, I feel like you kinda went rogue on this vid. The thumbnail, the green screen Hannah. Definitely different from usual. Thx for the great views as always!
Waiting for the Dolomites video.
When casting this to my TV I got hit with AI translated audio. A setting I can't seem to change… Is that something you as a creator have control over when uploading, or is it just up to the YT gods?
Very weird having an AI narrator when you tune in to a specific creator video 😅
Looks like an amazing trip! Since you asked about cost comparison… As someone with a good tech job in the US, I would consider that above average cost wise on a per person per day basis (looked like ~$500pp/day) but not extraordinarily so. We paid double that for our 20th anniversary luxury cruise in Tahiti (by far the most expensive vacation we've ever taken), and I usually budget $400-500pp/day including airfare which obviously you didn't…
For sure, the Amali Coast is better than Thailand. Because…

Жаль что у вас нет озвучки аудио на русском
Hi Hannah! I’m a local from Positano and was so surprised to see this video on my fyp! Ive been watching your videos for about a year and even bought your guide as I went to Japan for a month🥰 Thank you for the nice things you said, and I know this is not an easy place to travel to, but its also kinda hard for the locals sometimes, so I,ve learnt you cant have everything. I hope you had a lovely time here and cant wait for your next video!!
Chosen locations really do make all the difference on what your trip winds up costing. Popular tourist areas are always overpriced and crowded. Admittedly, my last trip to Europe was in 2009, and costs have doubled or tripled since then and the exchange has always been terrible, but what you paid for four days, is what I paid total for my 3 week trip across Italy and Germany – economy flight and hostel/low star hotels/public transport included. In terms of how to spend money, lol, it's having a budget that you're working with for each day, but realizing that extra expenses or splurges are going to be a thing, and building those into your itinerary as well. I'm fairly frugal, but if you see something and really love it, don't say you'll think on it or come back for it, because chances are you won't and it will become a regret either because it sold to someone else, you don't actually get back to it, or there isn't something similar further along in your travels. If you can afford it, buy that artwork or local specialty craft, piece of jewelry or outfit, glass of wine or cocktail, a unique meal because your purchase might make someone else's life better too. Congratulazioni per il vostro matrimonio!
I only eat at restaurants with a Jennifer Lopez selection on the menu
You read my mind with this upload! One question: how long was the walk from your hotel to town? And would you say it was relatively safe (aka not at risk getting mauled by Italian drivers)? 😆
Did I miss the airfare or is that included?
About 10 years ago I photographed a wedding in Ravello so I had my entire stay paid for. I STILL pinch myself about getting that gig. It's such a nice place if very difficult to get to from Naples!
p.s. I had a pizza in Ravello and it was NOT great either….I was so confused lol Bad pizza in Italy?
This was back in summer of 2001, the last time I went to Europe, and I remember being in Germany waiting in line to get on the bus and some Italians cut past everybody and got in. well, the Germans had none of that and kicked them off the bus and they were loaded last. It shocks me when people don't form lines, I'm used to it in the US so that was a learning experience about Italian culture.
Your trip cost as much as I expected, it looks like a very touristy area with not much leeway to save on costs by the look of it. If there were options to buy groceries yourself and cook your own food, that might have helped a little bit, but that would probably only be possible if you were in an AirBNB? Overall, I think you two did well for your trip.
Hi Hanna! Thank you for sharing this insightful and realistic video! I was born and raised in Ravello (currently living in Aus) and hearing you realise how much your experience can change just by staying in a “less” notorious town it made me smile. Ravello is actually very rich in history and is known for being the most tranquil part of the coast after the tourism boom.
You nailed every single aspect of the coast and, as much as can get crowed, hell yeah if it’s worth it!!
Thank you for sharing this amazing video, you guys are fantastic!
Happy honeymoon 🎉
Fantsatic video, this was amazing
fish? im confused- i thought hannah was vegan? maybe thigs change, i know they did for me
Base camp at Sorento… on the travel shoulder… loved Positano and Ravello… lots of magic photos … lots of insane memories
We can all appreciate the coastal views, but let's also appreciate how muckaluckin' SEAMLESS the voiceover to on-camera narration transitions are okay
Where are the wedding videos? Congrats again on your wedding. Wishing nothing but the best in your lives together
Great video … as always! I was in the area a couple of years ago for my daughters wedding and absolutely loved the area. We went from Naples to Sorrento and the group met up there to begin. Sorrento is a delight. Stayed up in the mountains between Sorrento and Amalfi which was still stunning but the prices are more reasonable. I also rented a scooter and loved the freedom it provided. We rented a boat with a guide near Nerano and just cruised the coast for a day … SPECTACULAR!
Always amazing videos from you, in Japan ou in Europe ❤ you were so reasonable budget wise for your honeymoon trip 😉
That view from your hotel balcony is wild. Looks like something straight out of a travel magazine. Even with all the crowds, those little streets look so dang charming. Oof I feel you on the uphill hike in full sun. You powered through like a champ though, serious props! That hike looked seriously breathtaking. “Take the corners slow cuz the buses don’t care” 💀 That boat ride looked like pure magic. Loved hearing your honest take on the money side of things. Travel is such a personal thing and you captured that so well.
The private boat is a dream!! It’s nice to go all out on your honeymoon 💙
Your audio settings are set to translate automatically. I need to login to get my own settings and hear your original audio.
My parents made this trip last year! I helped them find a place on the Sorrento side of the peninsula after I saw some of the prices on the Amalfi side (shout out to Vico Equense!) and they had a lot of success taking the train into Sorrento and then joining guided experiences from there. If you can settle for a less bespoke itinerary there's some that offer a combination of bus and boat transportation along the Amalfi coast that looked great. I'll make the trip myself some day but that was a month before I finally visited Japan.
Edit: Milan/Lake Como too? This is kind of a dream itinerary for me lol
Ive done Amalfi a couple times and it can be super budget friendly while still doing everything. Renting your own boat for the day is cheap and you dont need a license. Nothing better than cruising up and down the coast or even out to Capri. Vespas are the ONLY good AND fun way to get around.
In Italy, Greece, Spain it's normal for the fish to have bones in the plate.
I too did my honeymoon in Europe. Two years ago. We opted to go budget and stay at an Airbnb 1 hour by car from Amalfi coast and went around on a-rental car same day return. We probably spent just 500aud per day which included car hire, Farmstay accommodation petrol costs, budget level eating and dining near Positano on a really nice view overlooking the coast
Great video, beautiful and informative! Really liked the editing too, great job. 🙂
I actually live in Europe and can say for sure this is expensive by all standards, not just Japanese yen’s exchange rates. For comparison – with this amount you could’ve easily stayed in Bulgaria for 2-3 weeks instead.
1.50 euro for a bus or a metro can easily be 200+ euro in pickpocketed adventures. Be safe when you come here and buy a belt wallet online, make apaper copy of your documents
Dam that is pricey. I just planed a 3 week trip two in Japan with flights, trains, car hire for 2 people for the same cost.
brilliant idea… splurge on an exotic Italian getaway, then make a video about it and recoup all the costs with youtube earnings 🙂
Congratulations on your marriage Hannah, many loving years. If you want mouth watering pizza at half the price, go to Salerno. It's at the south end of the Amalfi Pennisula, si mangia bene.
Really appreciated how you covered the crowds. Personally, crowds like that would ruin any destination for me so I'd be sure to go outside of peak season.
