japan’s last stand
The Battle of Okinawa was one of the bloodiest events of World War II, and civilians paid the price. The Imperial Japanese Army took away their shelter, food, and killed people for speaking the Okinawan language, assuming they were spies. One in every four Okinawans lost their lives. Their villages were turned into battlegrounds, so people sought refuge in caves, but the Imperial Army summoned Okinawan children to serve in the war. Hundreds of girls were forced to act as nurses with zero training. They were suddenly told to go home in the middle of the war and thrown into crossfire. Boys dug trenches and transported supplies where they were indoctrinated by a militarized education system. They were also victims of it. Some civilians were given grenades to extinguish their family in case they were caught by the Americans. Everyone was taught that it was better to die than to be captured. Disabled soldiers were tricked into drinking milk laced with cyanide. It was only after the war that Okinowans realized the divide between themselves and mainland Japanese. This is only the beginning of a new painful chapter.

Did japan did any compensation for their action or they hide it under the rug like they did witu comfort woman from their imperialism to other countries? Im still baffled how Germany educates their government's mistakes and japan doesn't 😔
This is a highly simplified and generalized account of the battle of okinawa from the perspective of okinawans. All information is based on exhibits and testimonies from museums I personally visited in okinawa. I would also like to acknowledge the koreans and taiwanese who were forced into labor by the imperial japanese army during this battle.
If you’d like to learn more about the children involved, please look up himeyuri student corps and tekketsu kinnotai
i really love your content and i get this music is your MO for your videos but i reeeeally.., kinda think.,,, for these kinds of topics,,, if you would /consider/ using different music/no music at all? i mean it's so heavy, and painful to hear about and the music on top of it is all a bit disconcerting and giving me whiplash. maybe it is a me problem, but i also think it could be more respectful to not use this kind of whimsical music for these topics. i am looking forward to your future videos on this though, thank you for your work and i hope you had a great and informative holiday!!
Comparing the imperial Japanese army to the United States military of today is bizarre
I really lke your content, but I gotta say this;
The music is really unfitting to that heavy topic.
I've noticed this before, where you've discussed other heavy topics.
Please reconsider your music choice when it comes to such heavy things. You're discrediting yourself.
Tf the us do to em?
US Military member stationed in Okinawa here – absolutely crazy work to compare us to the imperial Japanese. We were by no means perfect, and have had our ugly moments, but we as a military acknowledge them and are working everyday with the Okinawan government and community leaders to better the relationship and atone for inconveniences. Japanese government broadly doesn’t acknowledge their human rights abuses- which were horrendous, and acts as though the imperial Japanese army didn’t do much wrong.
Bruh is a hatter of Japanese government and always telling the bad things only lmao
Disconnect between the music and narration.
Okinawa wasn't the only place where they trained children for combat. My grandparents told me that they had mandatory combat training during school with bamboo spears in case the Americans came. Luckily, the war ended before that so they didnt actually fight, but if they did invade the mainland like they did with Okinawa, I'm pretty sure the same thing would've happened all across the country. They did have a few close call with bombings though, since they lived in an industrial area where weapons were eing made.

My grand aunt died in the caves by a bomb. RIP. Her name is honored at the Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum.
Background Music: ☺️
Topic of the video: 😥
the himeyuri museum was the saddest thing
This music is honestly making the video disturbing
Wth is this music?
What’s with all the comments about the music? Hasn’t anyone heard of irony?
Japan doesn't get enough flak for it's imperialist history and it bothers me
The music is often jarring in the shorts on this channel, but in this case it feels straight up disrespectful.
Okinawa is safe to visit rn? Ppl talking bout earthquakes happening around the Japanese islands.
I was stationed in Okinawa with the USAF JAG Corps. Here is information regarding crime by US SOFA members, which includes family members of the military.
Only a very small fraction—well under 1%—of Okinawa’s population is affiliated with the U.S. military and involved in criminal activity on the island. While U.S. bases account for a disproportionately high share of reported crimes in Japan (especially given their geographic concentration in Okinawa), the per‑capita crime rate among local Okinawans is significantly higher than that of U.S. military personnel when properly adjusted for demographics like age and gender.
“Better die than be captured”. Last time I checked, US still has military bases on the island. Guess it’s still captured but not many falling that motto.
Down with American imperialism.
thank you for talking about this even if everyone is not receptive to what youre saying
my grandmother and her sister lost their entire family in this period and its not something that a lot of people know about
The complete lack of acknowledgement of all the comments saying the music is inappropriate is beginning to make me think that it's deliberate engagement bait
Okinawans started to think of themselves as japanese after the war despite the home island not thinking the same about them.
America is number 1
girl this music.. what in the psyop is going on
The background music was A Choice
Okinawans were also of course far from the only people subjected to this treatment by the IJA; everyone under Imperial Japanese rule, including soldiers, was instructed to take the Remington (or, I guess, Arisaka) retirement plan rather than be captured, and told that the Americans were psychotic savages that would make anyone who DIDN'T die regret it. As for cyanide milk, that sort of thing also happened; a disabled soldier was useless on the front lines and worse than useless back home (as they would be taking up resources and damaging civilian morale), and they would very often off themselves without any trickery involved.
