Are you planning your first trip to Japan? Let’s be real. One of the main reasons you’re probably going is for the food. We spent two weeks exploring Japan as first timers, and we made all the mistakes so you don’t have to. Welcome to episode 4 of our Japan for first timers series. Today, we’re sharing all the best food spots broken down by major cities. Starting with Asaka, Japan’s street food capital. Head to Kuruman Market. With over 150 different stores, there is so much to choose from. A must try Asaka is the viral and fluffy Ricar cheesecake. Just don’t visit within 30 minutes of closing. We learned that the hard way. For ramen, check out Ramen Jin Sajette. We tried the chicken broth sober and it was so thick, rich, and so delicious. For a quick bite, we loved onuri guru chan for fresh handmade rice balls. They are generously filled and super affordable. Next up, Kyotoiki Market, a bustling shopping street with over 100 shops and restaurants. For ramen, Ramen Muri is a must. Their chicken broth ramen was delicious and the restaurant is super cute. And if you’re a coffee lover like us, it’s worth lining up at Arabica coffee. There are a few locations in Kyoto, you can confirm they do make good coffee. We found a local favorite, Shakura Marishin. Known for their affordable set meals. They’re so tasty and great value. Finally, Tokyo. Start early at Fish Market for fresh sushi, Wagyu beef skewers, egg omelette skewers, strawberry mochi, and custard filled fish. You can’t visit Japan without trying ramen. Famous for its single cube 24-hour dining experience. Looking for a local ramen gem? Fuki Ramen is known for their rich pork bone broth with thick noodles. Plus, it is super affordable. Now, if there’s one sweet you try in Japan, make it a success at Kagget’s melon pan. served with cream or ice cream. We went back for seconds to try both. Something unique, head to Menurashi in Harajuku, famous for their viral udon carbonara, but expect to wait nearly an hour in line. And finally, if you need to try a matcha house and ice matcha were a favorite of ours on our trip. Follow for more Japan travel tips and itinerary.
