Japan tour Vlog 7 : Exploring Takayama
We are in Takyama.
Hi.
Had one more day after we filmed the last recap
and we got a lot done.
How did we get down to the outdoor onsen, Angela?
The best Shin Kansen in Japan. The first Shin Kansen in Japan.
The biggest Shinkansen station. No, it was a little um
rickety old explain it.
It was a little rickety old shack mobile that took us a total of 30 m down the side of this mountain or hill.
And we walked back into town to try to find a ATM and get some convenini snacks for the night. Yeah, the kini snacks was successful. Um, I bought what I thought was peanut cream with toast cuz there was toast on the packet and it came in a box. But I opened it up and it was basically just a big tub of peanut butter which was fire. We had it with some oniri chips. Um, which went really well.
That was yum.
Uh, although that was also the start of the great ATM debacle.
Yes.
Of 2025. We thought we could have been stuck on the mountain forever and forced to live in the hotel. That’s pretty good.
Forced to live in mountains. Is that Tanuki?
Tanuk.
Tanuk. Anyway, Tanuk’s doing the washing.
We arrived in Takyama proper city.
Um, first impressions of it was like, “Holy this place is quiet.”
Yeah. M
like it felt to me like you look around and there’s people, there’s cars, there’s everything that birds, there’s things that make noise, but it seemed like none of them were making any noise somehow. We went to firstly to
Takyama Jun,
which is an old Shogun era government building.
Yes, that was cool.
This is epic. The Zen garden in there. right in the middle. You do like this full tour which takes you around the whole place and the middle again it’s just silent and you’re just like the most gorgeous zen gun and it was like beautiful day so the sun was shining down on it. There was a little pond in there and everything and we just sat there for a bit. Some random
person was like on their phone like on the other side and we were about to crash
kid I nearly No, I think you’re talking about different people. You’re talking about the lady who was talking
Yeah, the lady who was talking on the phone. There was another guy who was just sitting there playing video games on his phone. Like, bro, look up. What are you doing?
I’m having a wubby subie moment. Homie,
he’s playing video games. I look to my left and there’s a lady having a fullblown conversation. I was like, guys. Um, and then we went to
went to the old town.
Yeah, old town. Go away. Um, but I think like I mean the old town is like incredible. It’s kind of like that Kim Sedera area of Kyoto, but way less people.
Heaps of tourists, but as in like the ratio of tourists to locals is really weirdly high, but it’s still not that many people.
If you’re visiting Kyoto, I reckon Takyama is a good substitute for a couple of days, maybe 3 days.
You’re going to Kyoto for the old stuff.
So, I feel like you Yeah, you’re getting that here. I think the old town is a little bit bigger. almost a little bit nicer here.
Well, it’s not as packed here. In Kyoto, it was like cooked busy pretty much everywhere you went.
The one thing Kyoto has which this place doesn’t as much is temples. This has a few, but they’re not as impressive. But
uh yeah, amazing. We kind of just dodled around, came back here for a rest,
went to a really cool pen shop. Store was so nice. I’m pretty sure I recorded a video.
We were there for like half an hour. I wanted everything. Um,
yeah, bank account. Not happy with
No, we were like, “Oh, it’s getting late. We should try and catch the sunset at a nice location.”
So then you found what? A park.
Like you’ll literally see the mountains over there. So like, let’s walk up there, see if we can see the sunset.
Went on this random trail and found all these little spots.
So green, like maybe the greenest trees I’ve ever seen in my life.
And just grass and greenery everywhere. Felt like Bridge of Terabithia.
Yeah. And then came back home, had a mukbang.
Practiced some, as you probably saw an doing at the start of this video, practiced some tattoo artistry
that we may be getting done potentially
in the next few days.
Tokyo. In Tokyo.
Yeah,
we cooking.
Stay tuned. Sushi train.
This was a fun one , nearly being trapped on a mountain sure has it’s perks
