This was much harder than we thought ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Part 14 of our adventures at the Osaka World Expo 2025! ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

One of the most unique and FREE experiences we did in Japan at the World Expo was this udon making class! I gained a newfound appreciation for what goes into each noodle that makes it into my delicious bowl ๐Ÿœ and then my stomach ๐Ÿ˜‹

We made our noodles from scratch, starting with flour in a bowl ๐Ÿฅฃ and warm water ๐Ÿ’ง that we had to mix in gradually. We ran a little late to class, so the staff helped us catch up, demonstrating the techniques and communicating via Google Translate ๐Ÿ—ฃ

The most fun part was stomping the dough ๐Ÿ‘ฃ We had to do this multiple times after folding to knead everything together. The chef ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ then demonstrated a special technique to make the dough into a dome shape, and roll it out with a rolling pin.

Finally, we got to use their special cutting machine! It looks like a giant cleaver ๐Ÿ”ช that slides as you bring it down so you donโ€™t have to move your dough while cutting noodles. Kevin got an A+ and praise from the chef for his perfectly uniform noodles but mine was an โ€œoh noโ€ because I tried to operate the cleaver at 10x speed and it got stuck so I ended up with uneven noodles ๐Ÿคฃ

Overall we had a lot of fun, and they gave us a bowl of cold yuzu noodles to enjoy along with a udon making certificate and an bag ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  1. Chef to her: โ€œ ok ok ok ok, too fast too fast! Itโ€™s not getting cut! Not cutting!โ€ *disappointment. Lol. Looks fun, I would just suggest watching the knife while cutting something lol.

  2. That device looks pretty neat. It ratchets along the bar with every chop. I need one of those in my kitchen to level up my ramen game ๐Ÿ˜
