An Air India flight from Tokyo to Delhi was diverted to Kolkata on Sunday after passengers reported unusually high cabin temperatures mid-flight, prompting precautionary measures by the crew.
Flight AI357, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner (registration VT-ANI), departed from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at 12:31 pm local time. The aircraft landed safely in Kolkata at 3:33 pm, according to flight tracking data.
In an official statement, an Air India spokesperson said: “Air India flight AI357 operating from Haneda to Delhi on 29 June 2025 made a precautionary diversion to Kolkata due to persistent warm temperature experienced in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely at Kolkata and is currently undergoing checks.”
The elevated cabin temperature was attributed to a suspected air-conditioning issue, which made conditions increasingly uncomfortable for passengers during the flight.
Ground personnel in Kolkata are assisting travelers, and efforts are underway to arrange alternate transportation to Delhi. “We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers and are making all possible efforts to ensure their onward journey is smooth,” the airline added.
No injuries were reported. Technical teams are currently investigating the cause of the air-conditioning malfunction.
