72 hours in Kyoto & Uji – favourite matcha spots, eating around & shopping

[Music] [Music] good morning it is day one in Kyoto i’m currently in this place called Kio Misu and it is tourists um HI took a cab here this morning and neither of us brought any cash so he had to go back down get cash and now he’s come back up but our first stop here is this matcha store Gore and it’s known for these super rich matcha lattes um can I get one of the extra rich matcha latte with strawberry matcha ice cream and also one extra rich matcha latte with matcha ice cream he just saw the love of his life in this store it’s me m oh it’s so rich i like nah yeah no drinks are good they’re not suck update we’re actually both We’re both both constipated as
oh you’re wearing a mic yep honestly this area was so beautiful but so packed i’d highly recommend going super early to avoid beach crows miffy Kitchen look at this bread so cute what’s this we are currently getting lunch it’s What time 2:20 p.m um I didn’t vlog much today we pretty much just spent the day walking around Kimi Kimu kyomu walked around there looked at some ceramics i’m trying to look for like a chow one a really pretty one but I didn’t come across any that I loved this is where we are eating god damn hell yeah thickness is good oh this is so good how thin the pork is demolished [Music] miffy we found more miffy but found some cooking stuff stainless steel tray into the basket i want to get Ha’s sister something oh these are cute too all right this is our second matcher of the day i don’t think I’ve actually sat down and probably told you guys but a big reason as to why I’m here in Kyoto specifically um and Japan is that I am working on something really exciting so I’m here to do some research and visit some important people a lot of it is to do with matcha uh I don’t want to go into any specifics or any details yet um but yes it’s a big reason as to why I’m here so I’m going to be super wide over the next few days just literally inhaling matcha but it’s all for good cause and I love matcha so anyway this one from 7T is actually pretty good highly recommend if you’re in Kyoto the owner is super lovely as well
spring vegetable sauce and this one is tempushi snapper fish oh my gosh how do I get this right after lunch this is sick smell pretty good yeah this is how you taste [Music] it means like we’re having dinner tonight at Jiki Nia Zawa Sakino Japanese soup okay so this is our specialties make the semito with a zig apparently they’re famous for this dish it’s everything sesame everything sesame ta [Laughter] oh yeah princess I don’t want any more strawberry berry jelly this is our third matcha of the day we just got back to our accommodation i’m going to do a little haul of what we got today there
where else would I do it oh no i don’t care he’s so thoughtful i love him first things first I got this chawan for my matcha i’m actually on the hunt for like a specific type of chawan and it’s this cute pink and white one got some constipation meds cuz they’re both a little bit constipated ah this is furake it’s like a spicy rice topping really really good oh my god I have to censor that from the same shop this uh cyto chili oil flavored potato sticks make sure some like lacquer plates he got like a steal on some lacer plates and bowls these cups from the Miffy store for Hexa’s sister and her boyfriend i go to these Miffy stores and I’m like I actually have a lot of what’s already on sale but I saw these new items which I don’t have and I’m I’ve actually been looking for like a stainless steel plate thing for cooking so I got this one has like these Miffy details on it this Smiffy stainless steel jug which I don’t know what I’m going to use for last but not least I got some matcha this one so this one is a kocha so a thicker matcha which I’m learning to enjoy and we went to this matcha store in the morning um and I everything was sold out by the time I got there but I managed to pick up two 30 g bags of the shin matcha it was all that was left so I just took it but that’s pretty much all I got i want to buy more matcha chawans and chassins but I want to find some pretty ones and also stock up on some matcha powder and yeah that’s pretty much all that’s on my shopping list um I don’t really have much else that I want to buy unless I come across something that I really like but mostly just gifts and stuff for my match collection that ends today i’ll see you guys tomorrow [Music] at Maraku good morning today is day three in Kyoto we are participating in this traditional tea ceremony today i’m here with Taka son [Music] [Music] [Music] you can see the matcha beautiful and it smells [Music] [Laughter] We finished with the cheese ceremony i don’t know if you guys can hear me but we are starving so I found this um to pan shop oh look at these little bibs place has instructions on how to eat the Tori python my god my favorite oh my god oh noodles look bomb springy thick donation i love to run it’s like my favorite [Music] [Music] absolutely destroyed we pretty much spent the rest of the afternoon looking at different ceramic and pottery stores the selection that they have in Kyoto is honestly unmatched compared to a lot of the places that we went in Japan so highly recommend checking it out and just doing some random browsing whilst you’re here i didn’t vlog much today because we’re just kind of busy strolling around we had the tea ceremony and then we did some cooking actually half of these are gifts so let me move them away first things first I bought a new chan show you guys it’s so pretty it’s very similar to what I bought yesterday but it looks like this the detailing inside super lightweight as well all right and then we got some salt so Aaron showed me this salt we got some matcha salt some I actually don’t know what it is it’s pretty much like a kumami salt kind of like MSG but it’s freaking delicious on everything so got some for myself and as gifts for friends i bought this thing it’s a kind of strawberry jam the strawberries in Japan are just so goated and last but not least we did a massive haul at Maru Koyan we both got a bag of hojicha powder these are just like some samples she gave us fukuro uh this one is hes these are two of the highest grades in Maku Koymen so you got tenju here and this one’s kiwami chan i probably butchered the name so these two are actually best served as kocha which is like a thick matcha sencha this one is also hesious he got the taka ragi one kin and also one this is the cooking grade waka waka wakaake this is for cooking this one is mine this is hojicha
i think I’ve dranken so much matcha that my was green wouldn’t you like to know what I got oh good today we’re heading to Uji which is supposed to be the matcha capital of Japan or the world actually at Nakamura Tukichi holy [Music] oh very roasted it is like not even 11:00 a.m and every store we’ve walked into is either like sold out of matcha or they just don’t have what I want in stock stopping at Shiman’s got so much Having lunch here we got baited by these pizzas that fake pizzas that look really good nice this looks so funny i’m so hungry man
all right you go first how’s it it’s hot i prefer New York style pizza but this is pretty good sausage you want to do one one beef one

i haven’t vlogged much today because we’ve actually just had a pretty lazy day so I haven’t gone to Ichi we’re both feeling like super tired we’re getting our last meal on Kyoto we’re just having food and we’re going to go home and have an early night pack and just chill because tomorrow is going to be a big day looks pretty decent good evening friends um didn’t vlog much today honestly h and I were just both feeling so exhausted maybe we’re also feeling a little bit beny which is a word that I learned in Japanese which means I constipated i’m honestly not sure why we are constipated we’ve been trying to eat as much fruit and veggies as possible but happens literally um so feeling a bit bloated also been waking up early past few days so just kind of took a chill today these are all the things we got in Uji today just a side note if you guys are coming to Japan specifically Kyoto in hopes to find matcha it is so hard every store has a limit of like one per person and even with the limits most of the popular ones are out of stock i would suggest going early to the store before opening if you’re after a specific matcha and just be conscious of what you’re buying most of these are honestly gifts um but obviously I’ve bought a lot to try myself i’ll quickly zoom through what I got i’ve never heard of this brand before but I wanted to give it a try decently priced i think this one was $1,728 yen which is approximately like 20 Australian this one this one is from Tumbayashi this is the limited edition Kyoto one so super excited to try this one i’ve heard nothing but great things about this matcha brand next one is Hi Shichi Men i got the Torto mukashi mukashi a tanro to mukashi another one of those another tomashi i guess he got one too and hatsum mukashi a quick tip is that you don’t need to be buying the top of the range matcha unless you’re drinking in kocha orcha oh hello this one’s mine this one’s hesious he bought a bunch of like loose tea leaves right sencha and Yeah these are all from Nakamura Tiki we literally went like 30 minutes after opening and they were completely sold out of matcha unless you bought it in the set this is a set with two different matchas and a scha see that’s all the matcha we got today actually not that much when I think about it a lot of matcha i think we match it out a lot of matcha anyways that’s our haul i don’t think I’ll be buying more matcha oh actually maybe maybe gifts do it
