Arisa Trew surpassed legends Shaun White and Nyjah Huston for the most X Games gold medals won by a teenager, with seven as of Sunday (22 June) — a mark she shares with vert maestro Gui Khury.
And by capturing an unprecedented fourth consecutive women’s park title, Trew also became one of the X Games’ winningest female skateboarders of all time.
But more than owning pages in the record books, the 15-year-old was happier with something else that happened in Osaka on the afternoon – skating and winning in front of her Japanese mother’s side of the family, especially her grandmother who saw Trew compete for the first time in person.
“I was really happy today that my grandma could come and my uncles and my cousins and my family from Japan because I don’t get to see them too often and they came from Gifu to watch me,” said the Paris 2024 Olympic champion, who failed miserably in suppressing the widest of smiles.
“So I was really happy – and then I got to share my grandma my medal.
It’s like their first time watching me skate, in real life. I was really happy that I could win for them.
“My grandma I showed her my medal and she was just in so much shock. I think they’re all really proud of me.”
On the final day of X Games Osaka 2025, Trew won her second gold at Kyocera Dome Osaka after winning the women’s vert crown a day earlier.
The Australian ran a 93.33 on her second attempt, the only skater to clear 90 on this day.
She comfortably topped Osaka-born, Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Yosozumi Sakura, who had a super second run of 87.66. Another Japanese, Kusaki Hinano, finished third with an 85.66.
Five of the eight-woman field were Olympians but Trew still appeared to be in a league of her own. Amazingly, all seven of her X Games medals are gold.
And Trew does not plan on slowing down anytime soon.
“I’m really happy now to be the woman (skateboarder) with the most X Games gold medals because that’s really cool,” she said.
“I’m even more happy that now I’m tied with Guy because at the start of the event, me and Gui were tied with gold medals. This morning he got another gold medal so he was in front of me by one for like around an hour so I was happy I could back him up. Now we’re tied so we’re kind of like competitive with our medals.
“I did my first run and I kind of fell at the end but I still made it into the real finals with my second run and I was happy with that.
“In the finals of four, my first run scored a 90. I was really happy with that because I landed my medal five in it and my switch mic twist so that was really good for me.
“I was still, like, first when it came to my second run as well and then on that run, I scored a 93 with a Kickflip Indy instead of the medal five and a switch mic twist again so I was really happy with that.”
