WHAT TO EAT IN TOKYO, JAPAN! My Favorite Tokyo Meals ๐Ÿœ (ramen, seafood, beef, udon, katsu)

hi everyone in this video I want to share with you some of my favorite meals in Tokyo Japan so that you can save them for your upcoming trip these are places I would go back to again because they are just that delicious if you’re looking for more places to eat in Tokyo be sure to check out the other vlogs like Udon Tour conveyor belt sushi and market blog give this video a thumbs up and subscribe if you haven’t already let’s head to the first restaurant take off our shoes wow all right y’all we are at Sato Yusake here in Ginsa i hope I’m saying that right so they are known for their udon here this udon branch actually opened in 1860 and they are known for their inaniwa hoshi udon which is a thick dried Japanese wheat noodle it’s supposed to be thinner than normal udon so you can get it hot or you can get it cold we got two sets because we want to dip the cold noodles in the different sauces so one comes with soy and sesame and the other one comes with two types of curry i’m so excited also when we lined up I had no idea that you can get these type of little like tatami room seings it’s so vibby it’s intimate it’s so cute you may think you have to sit cross-legged but there’s actually a little hole here for you to put your little feet oh my gosh i’m having a great time the noodles just came oh my god presentation on point um once again I am eating noodles with sauce and soup and stuff in a white shirt i just never learn look how cute this spoon is let’s dig into this thin udon oh look at that oh oh my gosh so soft and smooth look at that we’re going to dip it into this green curry here wow oh my goodness the curry comes piping hot so I’m dip some of this cold noodles in here and here we go m these noodles are so soft i actually like these thinner noodles way more than the wide noodles that we had um in the other restaurant ginsa screen curry has a very light coconut flavor just a little bit spicy but it’s very smooth and very watery so it’s definitely not as thick you can still taste a lot of flavor though i’m going to try the red curry wow the red curry is a lot thicker look at that oh there’s shrimp in here here we go m wow this red curry is like a seafood curry it’s a little bit heavier a little bit creamier and just a tad bit more spicy the green one it’s like a light pork green curry they’re both very delicious and in terms of like curries they’re both on the lighter side but with these noodles it’s just the perfect balance now I’m going to try the sesame and soy I’m very excited about this cuz I can compare it with the sauce from the other udon restaurant i’m going to dip it into the sesame oo yeah get that crushed m nice and nutty and smooth this sesame sauce tastes better than the other one okay let me try the soy yeah yeah get in there here’s the soy here we go m m also delicious it’s like a pretty standard like soy sauce with a little bit of mirin tastes a little bit vinegary but the sesame one still delicious although none of these sauces and curry would even be good if it weren’t for these delicious soft noodles they’re just fresh chewy and they just glide in your mouth so well i love the thinner noodles cuz you can actually taste like the little threads and the texture of it and also the sauce gets into all the little crevices of the noodles it’s perfect and lastly I’m sample the tempura nice and crispy and beautiful dip in some of this sauce with some dashi okay here we go the tempura crisp just flaked away in my mouth the shrimp is so dang soft i feel like I’ve never described shrimp as tender before but if I could describe shrimp as tender this is this shrimp right here wow amazing you’re welcome while we digest let me show you guys my suitcase that I’m very passionate about ta i have been a long time away customer and fan i got their medium luggage in 2016 and then I just got their bigger carry-on so when they reached out I was like I use you guys on all my trips i chose the Away soft side carry-on in jet black this is new i’m loving that I can put my laptop in the front the material is durable nylon so extra wear and tear and it is liquid resistant i also like that it’s top opening in Japan specifically my rooms are always very small if I have a clamshell and lay it like that I don’t have much room so this is a big space saver and it’s easy access it’s got a compression pad this drawstring laundry bag TSA approved lock every Away suitcase goes through 30 plus tests to ensure they are durable and they last long and it shows because I’ve had my Away luggage for nine years and I am still using that thing and buttery smooth gliding wheels this is the everywhere bag in jet black and it fits perfectly to the luggage i feel travel chic it has so much organization inside a place for a water bottle detachable key clip perfect for day trips even a work or gym bag you can get 10% off your first order at Away just click the link in my description or scan their QR code i love them and can personally vouch for how great they are let’s roll into the next spot now this next spot I love traveling to Japan during the winter time so most of my Japan videos are filmed between November to March but this is the first time I’m in a snowstorm look at my face i do not wish this for you guys but thanks to the weather the wait time got cut to 15 minutes versus an hour or two [Music] when you get in you order on this tablet and I read a lot of reviews and the one to get is the chicken python ramen with fresh truffle you can get a soy sauce base or as is this chicken broth is made by slow simmering whole chicken and chicken bones for hours and hours and the result is pure magic i mean look at this beautiful golden bowl of broth i ordered the special because it comes with extra toppings of chicken vegetables and that beautiful ramen egg now taking this first bite here after that snowstorm yeah it hit it was heavenly that’s so good the slowcooked chicken broth was the richest silkiest chicken broth I’ve ever had was the truffle necessary this time yes it gave the broth this wonderful truffle fragrance that paired really well with that deep and umami broth and of course the noodles are medium firm soft yet chewy it also came with chicken wonton which is nice and soft i loved every bit of this perfect ramen egg one thing that I always struggle with especially with pork-based ramen is that it can be too salty and you can’t drink so much of the broth but with this bowl every sip was amazing the broth texture had this creamy finish that didn’t feel heavy very clean chicken broth that’s what this [Music] is and the chicken meat comes in these thin tender slices made it very enjoyable at the very end I got a taste of the soy sauce based broth and I thought it was even better than the one that had just because it was saltier more savory but you truly cannot go wrong with either one best chicken ramen I’ve ever had so far anyways I know there’s so many ramen in Tokyo to try but if you’re in Ginsa add this one to your list there’s no reservations here and hopefully when you guys come it’s much nicer weather [Music] all right y’all they give you this little sheet to tell you how to eat it these grill both sides of the medium rare fried beef cutlet on a hot stove until well cooked enjoy dipping sauce in our mountain wasabi sauce soy sauce or rock salt and wasabi by our favor combine some Japanese mountain yam and mntico with the mugi mushi muggi mushi you can have one refill of it if you wish [Music] for so we lined up we waited about 10 minutes and we got in and within 5 minutes of us sitting down our food came they take your order in line i ordered one beef cutlet it comes extremely rare as you can see it is red in the middle and they have this tiny little hot stone grill in front of you where you can cook it to your preferred dness here we go i’m going to put a piece on there wow do you hear that sizzle that is so satisfying turn it around and see oh wow it cooks so quick it cooks so quick you don’t want to put it on for too long okay okay okay i literally put that on for maybe like less than 3 seconds and it cooked it so fast also comes with three different sauces i’m going to dip it into the first one here we go all around by the way I always wonder that is fatty that is tender that is melt in your mouth wow the sizzling is so satisfying what a fun experience to cook this by yourself now I’m trying with some soy sauce and wasabi there you go m it tastes so quality you know I come here every day i think it’s best just with a little bit of salt and wasabi it by itself has so much flavor i’m grilling this one more so I get more of a crust on this one ooh ooh i cooked this one to have more of a sear there and I’m going to dip it again in a little bit of salt and a little bit of wasabi i mean I knew this place was very hype i knew it was very popular but now I can see why for $11 and that quality and and that kind of melt in your mouth flavor spectacular i’m glad there’s like this little thin layer of golden crust just holding that fatty beef in i think my favorite way to eat this is actually to cook it enough where it gets more of like a sear a little bit more of that smoky grill flavor on the meat and the fact that it’s just like cut in the perfect bite-sized piece this This place the hype is real mhm ooh i’m going to dip this one in this sweet sauce right [Music] here wow it’s like a sweet garlicky sauce it does taste like the dressing yeah they’re like a sesame garlic dressing almost [Music] if your flame goes out they will relight it for you little cute little potato salad on the side wow it is peppery yeah very peppery but delicious very well seasoned i’m a big fan of these shredded cabbage salads here oh hi [Music] The next stop [Music] is another intimate restaurant and here we’re getting a kaisenon which is a seafood rice bowl this is the menu it’s just based on how much ingredients you want i chose the matsu course which came in salmon roll tuna noi which is fish scraped from the bones shrimp gooey duck clam squid and cucumber every bowl comes with a side of sushimi with the sesame sauce and they also give you instructions on how to eat this the bowl was glorious i mean the lava of salmon roll I was so happy to get my bowl i basically forgot the instructions and immediately went in for that first bite the bowl just had every seafood that I like especially the crab and oonie and then I realized ah yes there is a sauce that you pour into your rice so I mixed it up a bit and while I was doing this I was thinking man I should have gotten the course with extra umi and extra salmon roll but that’s just my internal big bag thoughts i love seeing all the seafood pieces mixed up in my rice i took a bite with the sauce all mixed in and every bite was savory fresh with hints of sweetness it’s a mixture of chewy fish pops of salmon roll melt inyou mouth oonie and crunch from the cucumber pieces i was having a good time i also forgot there was a chunk of wasabi in there and I just mixed that right into my bowl the wasabi too i was so so happy with this bowl and I think what made it really enjoyable for me was the way the seafood was chopped up versus just laying slices of seafood on top of the rice so then every bite you get a mixture of flavors and textures okay not me with tears of joy the sashimi slices were nice and fresh nutty from that sauce with a little hint of yuzu and you’re supposed to save two pieces for later i’ll show you why after you’re done they’ll add this steamy fragrant sea broth to your bowl i had a little more rice than others because I basically scraped off all the seafood bits so this turned into more of a seafood porridge for me but man oh man that broth was so comforting and it left this velvety coating on my tongue it was so good and umami it was like a a warm hug then you can add your remaining sashimi and here’s what it looks like after i truly enjoy the simplicity of this meal and it’s somewhere that I would definitely go back to again [Music] okay so [Music] names currently at Katsu this is Michael’s recommendation i lined up here at 5:20 and there was nobody in line it was just me and then as soon as it hit 5:30 groups of people started coming and now it’s just lines down the block i feel like it’s an hour to two hour wait okay here are the katsu sets they have shrimp they have pork we ordered a chicken a pork also a crab croette did we get this eggy thing no no oh but it looks really cool yeah it looks cool that’s what I thought it’s not as good this is so cute i want to take it home so I’m going to pour some of this onto shredded cabbage they give you a little towel and it’s nice and warm it’s um 6 p.m right now so I am jetlagged savory nutty sauce is so fragrant it’s very salty shredded cabbage is so much more enjoyable this is just the appetizer and it’s already good wow look at that thick thick sauce i got to get myself one of these ladles they’re so cute so you can use them to several people i am going to buy myself these little salt jars kawaii i have been instructed to put the sauce in here and then salt in here wow the sauce is intense very fragrant it’s like pungent almost it came with rice pickled veggies m i love that the set comes with soup but it is nice wow sorry it’s okay i’m going to go ahead and go in on the chicken i’ve never seen them fried like this it’s like a chicken finger a tube of chicken fingerlings you can just tell how thick and juicy that’s going to be here we go wow the outer layer is so soft it was like my teeth instantly melted into the batter and then into the chicken it is so tender i also got an egg so juicy dip it some of this sauce i’m so excited i love raw egg that is incredible that’s so good my favorite way to eat this is with a little bit of salt that adds just a little punch of flavor here’s the crab i’ve been instructed to eat it just the way it is m it’s like this creamy mayoy crab potato on the inside it’s mushy and decadent and just little hints of that seafood crab flavor with sauce m it almost has this clam chowder flavor good but the chicken probably like a notch better so good so I can eat look at this thick slab of pork wow i’m going to try it with some of this mustard here taking a bite every single piece has been so juicy and tender it’s wonderfully fried lightly flavored i love adding a little bit of mustard there i dipped it in some of that sauce so good right it’s so I do enjoy that the pork has more of a chew but I have to say my favorite is that chicken i appreciate the soup kind of breaking up the fried oiliness of everything i will never be the same very good back to my favorite piece the chicken the way when you bite into it it really just like you just melt into the chicken and the crazy thing about the chicken is the chicken doesn’t feel that oily what and is this chicken breast is this chicken breast wow the way they made it so tender it’s incredible how do they make it so soft it’s almost as if they boiled the chicken not that anywhere else i’ve had other flatbread ones but this one’s like the cylindric i feel like the pork is the only oily heavy one where after you eat it you feel like you need to balance it out with some rice whereas the chicken you just want to enjoy that on its own that was really really good i’ve never tasted chicken cooked that way yeah three orders of chicken please i also love the crab cuz it was like mushy on the inside it was like a mushy crabby potato the chicken the crab and then the pork thank you for the recommendation it was so good of course said it changed her life it changed my life it changed her life i’m a new woman she’s because of the chicken you can actually order the soup cuz it just comes in one cut like little side dish no wonder there’s a line down the block another few must eat spots to add in Tokyo oh my gosh the list is extensive let me know in the comments below which of the items that we tried today would you love to try and give this video a big big thumbs up i will link the playlist to watch the other Tokyo Japan vlogs i have another video coming up featuring omic acis to try and I’ll see you in the next

  1. Hi TJ what a great video. I would love to try all the dishes they looked awesome. I really like the beef one. I never saw a place like that before and the last one the chicken and pork looked awesome. Maybe sometime I will get to Tokyo and try some of those places. Meanwhile I am going to try Taipei for a few days at the end of June. I have seen a couple of food markets there I would love to try. Keep smiling and stay safe

  2. All the items look fantastic. Grilling your own steak looks really fun ! Customers can cook it just how they want it without worrying about the staff looking down their noses at you for wanting it well done (although I don't expect Japanese staff are as snooty as in some other countries).

  3. Hey TJ ๐Ÿ™‚ you do realize at 1:37 is just a small crack in the timber, not usually to put your lil leggies ๐Ÿคญ and of course the prerequisite for eating slurpy slurp and sloppy food is ALWAYS white attire ๐Ÿ˜‹

  4. Literally just booked my first trip to Japan an hour ago and have saved so many of your and mei mei's tokyo videos. You both look like you know your stuff. Can't wait to try these places. โœจ๏ธ

  6. I was in Japan last month and I'm already ready to go back. I really liked Ootoya. It's a chain that has traditional dishes. It was so good and inexpensive.

  7. Girl I was just watching High Potential and I thought I saw you so I paused it and I googled it AND I DID CONFIRM IT WAS YOU!!!! WOW!!! SO HAPPY AND SO PROUD. I've been your supporter for years and I'm glad to see you explore more with your talents and interests. Love you sm! โค
