A Hidden Onsen Hotel on Japan’s Seaside Cliffs | Dogashima New Ginsui

Today’s journey starts on a train along the Izu Peninsula coast in Shizuoka Prefecture. We’ll relax at a scenic ocean-view hot spring inn today. 👋👋👋. On the right, we see the vast nature of the mountains. On the left, we move along, enjoying beautiful ocean views. We’ve arrived at the final stop, Izukyu Shimoda Station. The weather is great! This is a hot spring area in Shimoda Onsen. There’s a hand bath in the station’s rotary. It’s HOT! We won’t be staying here today. We’ll take a bus from platform 5 to western Izu’s “Dogashima.” It takes about an hour to travel along the coastline. Buses run once an hour, so there are many. We could’ve done some sightseeing or grabbed a bite around Shimoda Station before the bus. Once we see the winding coastline, we’re close. It’s a ria coastline, reminding me of Matsushima. The wind is so strong. Once we arrive at the bus stop, we’ll call the hotel for a shuttle. It’s just a 1–2 minute ride from the bus stop to the hotel. This is today’s accommodation. This inn is famous for its seafood and hot springs, but it’s not well-known outside the local area. The highlight is undoubtedly the breathtaking ocean view! From every room, you can enjoy the beautiful view of Dogashima. Check-in starts at 2 PM, which is a bit earlier than usual, and that’s nice. Here’s the front desk. You can also see seasonal Japanese decorations like Hina dolls and samurai helmets. >> Staff: The floor with the front desk is already on the 7th floor. >> Staff: Of the two buildings, West and South, your room is in the South building. Check-in complete. Thank you. If you go further in, there’s a lounge with an ocean view! From 9 AM to 10 PM, drinks and snacks are available for free. New Summer Orange Manju? Sounds good. There are various dried fish snacks. There’s sea bream, sardines, kawahagi, and horse mackerel. A perfect hand. Simmered burdock root. Let’s relax while watching the sea. From 3 PM to 5 PM, we can enjoy draft beer—such a happy hour! Before heading to our room, let’s stop by the amenity station. You can take only what you need, like skincare products, tabi socks, and hair clips. Oh, they have Sekkisei skincare. And Ellips hair oil too. Nice. It’s surprising that the front desk is already on the 7th floor. Wow, the hanging dolls are so long. The lower floors also seem interesting, but let’s head to our room first. Let’s take the elevator to the 6th floor. There are over 120 rooms in total at this hotel. Most of them are Japanese-style rooms. Here’s our room for today. Upgraded Japanese-style Room: From 23,100 yen (160.36 USD / € 141.44) per person. We take off our shoes and enter. Oh, this feels nice. It’s a simple Japanese-style room, but the blue wallpaper gives it a refreshing touch. When you open the sliding doors, there’s a indoor porch with a table and chairs. What’s the view like? A breathtaking ocean view. The emerald-colored sea sparkles and looks truly beautiful. In the distance, you can see Zoshima and Sanshiro Island. There are seats arranged so you can relax while looking at the sea. It looks like you can also order drinks via room service. Oh, ramen! They even have a dining place for late-night snacks. There were some sheets of memo paper and an envelope on the last page. I’ll draw something. Fuji mountain natural water. A big TV. You can fit your suitcase under the closet. There are yukatas for everyone, from tall people to kids. I’ll change into this size. There’s also a yukata jacket. There are six safes in the room. I’ll put my treasures in one. The water facilities are near the entrance. The toilet and washbasin are very clean. We are heading to the public bath, but the room’s bath is not bad. The room’s amenities are kept minimal. Let’s grab some towels and head to the bath on the second floor. The bath is open until 1 AM tonight and from 5 AM tomorrow. There are also day-use guests until 8 PM, so it’s a popular bath. Nothing beats cold alcohol after a bath. In addition to the vending machines, there’s also free barley tea and ice candy available. Ah. This place has an unusual atmosphere. I’m curious. We’ll come back to check it out later. The hot spring doesn’t have gender rotation. (Filming with permission.) Let’s start with the indoor bath. A large bathtub with a view of the outside through the window. The water is calcium-sodium-sulfate hot spring water, colorless and transparent. Shampoo and partitioned washing stations are set up perfectly. There’s also a dry sauna. It’s pretty spacious in the back. Here’s the cold bath. And now, onto the outdoor bath! It’s wide and open. The sea view and the sounds of nature are so relaxing! The water temperature is just perfect. There are partitions to keep it hard to see from the outside. The hot spring is great for cuts, burns, and skin care. It feels soft and pleasant. The blue of the sky and sea is truly beautiful. By the way, the men’s bath doesn’t have a partition. It’s even more open. There’s a road right in front, though… A great bath, where nature could really be felt. Dinner is a buffet! It’s a great time to eat as much as we like at a table with an ocean view. The seafood from the surrounding seas is abundant. Currently, there’s a special tuna event going on until mid-July. Wow, you can really feel how tender it is. Tuna yukhoe. Izu soul food, simmered golden-eyed snapper. This is a must-try. Shizuoka oden (fishcake stew). The soup in this region’s oden is noticeably darker, almost black. Freshly fried tempura right in front of us. Shabu-shabu?! They have pork and beef. We cook it ourselves in the shabu-shabu. Add some bean sprouts. Sesame dressing too. Tonkotsu ramen! A buffet with hands-on options, it’s fun. Perfect ramen. Hmm, we still need more seafood! You can choose your favorite sashimi from the seasonal fish. I chose tuna, golden-eyed snapper, and amberjack. Ah, I really want to try the seared bonito too, so I ordered a second plate. Looks so delicious! Sashimi and sushi are completely different dishes. You have to try both. The sushi has slightly larger pieces of fish. There were also plenty of sweet options like ice cream and cake. To my surprise, alcohol is included in the all-you-can-drink, so we toasted with wine. This place, Dogashima, is famous for its sunsets. It depends on the season, but today we got to see a beautiful sunset from the restaurant. Bone-in tuna collar. Scoop it out with a spoon. It feels like this tuna is tastier than regular tuna. Eating seafood while watching the sparkling water surface is awesome. It’s so great to enjoy golden-eyed snapper both as sashimi and simmered. Thank you for the meal. Before I knew it, it got dark while we were eating. We came to the first floor, which I had been curious about. It’s kind of nostalgic and interesting. There’s an arcade, karaoke, and a club here. It feels like a theme park—so cool! It’s a little creepy. They also have a pool in the summer. It’s quiet now since it’s nighttime, but I bet it’ll be lively during summer vacation. Okay, I’m playing ice hockey with my husband. Not bad, I won’t lose either. I was defeated badly. There’s a game area in the back. It has a variety of nostalgic games. Hammer Champ! Have you heard of it? Still got more games to play. The game area was open until 10 PM. We’re back in our room. When we went out, they laid out fluffy futons and dimmed the lights just right. It was a fun day full of eating, drinking, and playing. Good night. Good morning. Breakfast is a buffet in the same venue as last night. Japanese rolled omelette. Some dishes are made fresh in front of you in the morning too. Rice balls made with natural salt. I had them filled with tuna mayo and bonito flakes made from Izu’s dried bonito. Croissant French toast. The butter aroma is irresistible. Hot fried bread. This is a classic school lunch menu in Japan. Sugar, soybean flour, or cocoa—what’s your favorite? My favorite flavor is… All of them. Izu Peninsula’s local dish, “Mago Chazuke.” You put as much marinated local fish on your rice as you like. It’s good as a donburi, but… You can pour dashi and toppings over it to make it into chazuke. A giant milk carton? It’s milk, famous locally. The view is amazing even in the morning. Let’s dig in. Did the fried bread really taste this good? It’s absolutely awesome. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. It’s rare to find fried bread at a buffet, but it’s great. Mago chazuke has such a great fish broth. It’s light, perfect for breakfast. There were also croquettes and fish head soup. We got to sample a variety of local dishes. Thank you for the meal. It seems you can exit near the pool and get to the beach, so let’s check it out. The weather is perfect. Today, unlike yesterday, there’s no wind, making it great for a walk. Heading towards the nearby Tsubasawa Beach. Going down the hill. What a beautiful sea color! The complex shape of the coastline adds to the mystique. Careful of falling rocks as we arrive at the beach. It’s connected to the hotel grounds, so this might be like a private beach. It’s quiet, with calm waves, and it’s really beautiful. It’s a shallow, relatively safe beach, and swimming is allowed. What a great location. The natural beauty of West Izu is nice. Sending hearts to everyone who’s watched this far. 1. Wow, another beautiful video from you, thank you very much ! When I choose a ryokan or a onsen hotel, two things are very important for me:
The onsen. I like it when there is a rotemburo besides the onsen, and if there is a cold bath and maybe even private onsens, that is an added bonus. What I dont like however, is when people who dont stay in the ryokan or hotel, can use the onsens (like it is the case here).
The food. For breakfast, buffet is good (but I dont mind not having a buffet either, and I like japanese breakfast with grilled fish, tamagoyaki etc. / the only thing I cant eat, is natto (which your husband seems to love ;-)). For dinner, I prefer a kaiseki meal, because I like to be surprised, try things I never had before, and I enjoy all the small beautiful dishes and tableware. I have to admit however, that the buffet here looked really good.

  2. This was such a gorgeous and calming experience to watch as always. Absolutely breathtaking view of the sea! 🙂 Looking forward to many more adventures and thank you for sharing these magical trips with us.

  3. I stayed at another Dogashima onsen a year ago and did not have a good experience. This hotel looks much better!

  4. Do you video in both baths or does your husband film in the men's? It looks like you film after hours since no one's there?

  5. I never realized you had your own drone. The ocean flyover was awesome. The tuna heads were strange to see at a buffet, but I would be curious to try it. I love seafood so this would be heaven for me. So many choices. I was hoping to see you guys play air hockey and you didn't disappoint. Sorry you lost. Maybe your husband was an air hockey champion in high school. Thank you for sharing the beauty of the ocean and the scenery by it.

  6. Best happy weekend going with family 🌸❤Hoteru Onsen❤🌸beautifull and fresh always enjoying 🙏🙏🥰❤🥰🥀🌸🌷🌸🥀
Always succes for Hoteru Onsen everytime ❤❤❤❤👍☺

  7. That is not ice hockey. Hockey is played on the ice. I'm a Canadian and since we invented hockey I should know. Lovely, I wish I could stay there. Mini bar? Hearts to you from Canada.

    揚げパンはプレーン派かココア派かな?

  10. After watching this video, I want to eat nothing but fish dishes!!! 😂

This place looks so beautiful, the little beach will require swim shoes but what a nice little cove to swim safely otherwise! 🤩 And the baths! Hehe, I like how some places have all milk vending machine while others all beer near their onsen! 😂

Also the scenic shots were gorgeous! Have you got a drone now? 👀 Stunning views!

  14. Stayed in this hotel on our bikepacking trip to overcome a rainy day and it was the best! I want to come back! <3

  15. Yay! New video! Such picture perfect coastline. The food looked delicious too! I think I would eat too much there!
I would love to go to that hotel someday, looks like a great place to let go of stress.

  16. Oooohh, this brings back memories. I visited this Hotel in 2017 with a large groupe. I remember the Yukata, the Design hasn't changed 😆
The ocean view is indeed the highlight of this Hotel and the kind of privat beach is nice. We had a nice stay eventhough the Hotel felt a little bit outdated back then and I noticed a few things in the Video that still haven't changed. But I think it's worth a visit.
