East Japan Railway said it suspended services on the outer loop of the Yamanote Line Thursday night after problems were found with the trains’ pantographs, the apparatus that connects them to overhead power lines.

The railway company said the problems occurred around 9:45 p.m. and that it is investigating the cause. It has not yet determined when services can resume.

Services on the inner section of the busy loop line in Tokyo were unaffected.
