Live like a Samurai in Komoro, Nagano – Off the Beaten Path in Japan #walkingtour #samurai #travel
Komoro city in Nagano is such a lovely Japanese castle town wherein Edo period (1603-1868) buildings have been restored and preserved. You can explore the city on foot and see so many attractions in one day.
This is the guide you need so you can see everything in a short amount of time, I suggest you bring a Google Translate app on your phone because a lot of the information you would read are in Japanese. You may contact the Komoro Tourism for assistance. If you reserve at least 3 days in advance you may be able to get a free tour guide. If you are a group, you’ll probably need to pay a fee.
One of the main attractions of this little known city is the Komoro Kaikoen Park which is one of the Japan’s Top 100 places to see Cherry Blossoms. Even if there are only castle ruins here, it holds a very significant cultural value because unlike other castles in Japan, it was not located on a mountain.
If you have the time, I suggest you stay at Kumeya Hotel overnight and on the next day, you can go see the Nunobiki Kannon temple on the mountainside, Yume Lavender farm, wineries and Komoro Starrace.
I don’t have any affiliation with the establishments or the city, but I just wanted to share our experience because it was so much fun. It’s especially beautiful during Autumn.
***Please forgive me if my Japanese translations are not well done. I’m still learning!
