The Nagasaki Bombers Defied Orders – Adam Brown
it was never meant to be a mission to Nagasaki it was meant to be a mission to bom kakura a different Japanese City but they got there and it was clouded over and they had like very strict instructions do not bomb unless you can see the target so then they went to their secondary Target Nagasaki and it was again covered in clouds and they did a whole bunch of passes they’ made a number of mistakes personal flying mistakes on their part that meant that they didn’t have enough fuel once they got to Nagasaki to carry the bomb back to base basically and they probably have ended up in the ocean had they tried so they were extremely motivated so according to the official account after having done all this on the third and final pass over Nagasaki there was a miraculous hole in the cloud that suddenly opened up and then they dropped it uh little known fact they missed Nagasaki they were aiming for one point and they hit another point that was on the other side of the Hill such that the original thing they were aiming for was you know reasonably Untouched by comparison they missed by much more than you would miss if you were doing visual bombing and they would been told to do visual bombing so there kind of Suspicion is that they were doing a little bit of radar bombing against direct orders but what’s super clear is that whether or not there was a hole in the clouds they certainly had decided in the cockpit on that final run that no matter what they were going to drop it so even if there was a hole in the clouds wasn’t a hole in the clouds they had decided to drop the nuclear weapons against direct orders so does kind of look like 50% of all the nuclear weapons ever dropped in combat were dropped against direct orders I when they got back Curtis L was going to court Marshal them uh and was like super mad but then the war ended and and they didn’t want to do it for PR reasons nobody who was on the plane said that they faked the hole in the cloud story but some people who were on the plane said they were determined to Dro the bomb no matter what and they were highly incentivized to do this cuz if had they not done it they’d have probably as it was they only barely made it back to their emergency landing spot in okanawa you know they would have definitely ended up in the drink and certainly the bomb would have ended up in the drink have they not done it so the interesting thing is that the reason nuclear war was averted in other cases is also because they refused to follow direct orders right in the case of pet he uh didn’t report the seeming sighting of nukes from America and that that obviously contradicts orders yeah there’s nuclear insubordination in both directions there like there like the good kind where they they uh sort of maybe should drop the bomb according to their orders and and refuse to and then there’s the other kind yeah

This is an excerpt from my conversation with Adam Brown, a theoretical physicist at Stanford and founder of BlueShift, where he’s leading efforts to crack math and reasoning at Google DeepMind.
In the full interview, we discuss vacuum decay, the holographic principle, mining black holes, and what it would take to train an AI capable of making Einstein-level conceptual breakthroughs.
The full interview is out on my channel now!
why do all your sentences go up at the end? is everything you say a question? or are you a 14 year old american high school girl?
You don't even know how inaccurate bombing from height was in WWII? A high percentage of bombs landed well away from their targets. This is one of the most well documented events in history and you're waaaaay misinterpreting it.
"Miraculous" for whom?
This history "expert" gives off creepy Wole vibes and a lot of lady energy. Also, gets too many facts only half right.
The Soviets didn’t launch because even they knew their early warning systems were garbage.
The US defied orders because the orders were dumb and risked the crew’s lives for nothing.
That is the difference.
Now i dont want to live anywhere near military industrial complex,
Miraculous is not the best word choice for a hole in the clouds that led to so much death.
There was at least one person who had the distinction of being on the ground in both Hiroshima on August 6 and Nagasaki on August 9. I don't know if he was unlucky in location or lucky in life in that he survived both bombs.
This is the most bullshit filled lecture I’ve ever heard. Half of this info is just flat out WRONG.
Shame
You utter lying grifter
The fuel pump in the bomb bay fuel tank also wasn't working. On top of all of this Curtis LeMay was running for President. Imagine having a President who thought a nuclear war was winnable.
They still obliterated the Mitsubishi torpedo works. What's with missing what?
A comments section full of butthurt septics 😂😂😂😂😂
It’s wild that the people flying the plane are insinuated to be responsible as opposed to the highest officials of the U.S. government who made the decision to drop them in the first place. It is worth thinking about this point.
LOL historical revisionism at its finest. Smh
My uncle was on the invasion fleet ( operation Downfall ) and always said …good about the dropping of the bombs because most people don't know that the allies estimated up to 1 million dead allies trying to take Japan and untold millions of Japanese would have died.
Many people play Monday morning quarterback all these years later but until you where one of those men getting ready to invade….you have nothing to say.
With respect to his speculation about navigation errors, causing the fuel problem , I could’ve sworn that the documentation specified that there was a failure for the auxiliary refuel to feed .
I guess he was in the cockpit the whole time.
Thank God, he spoke up .
Otherwise, we would’ve been left with armchair quarterbackers.
With the information you provided, it appears they had no other choice. In that case, they clearly had no choice but to drop the bomb.
If they had no choice, then they obeyed their orders.
An act of pure evil
Im a barca barca fan, ive felt my heart crack when he said we going through 😭 please jinxbhuto stay away from my club
How was "the other kind" of refusing orders bad? The bomb might not have done all the damage that was intended, but it did far more than what it would've done landing in the ocean.
The Victor's aren't happy when the history they wrote gets re-written.
Nothing he said in this video is true
This guy sure made up a lot of stuff
I was aware that the largest Catholic population in Japan was at Mass when the bomb was dropped, and the Air Force was aware of this fact.
Unauthorized History of the Pacific War You Tube recently explained that the plane was an hour and a half behind schedule. The result of there drop beyond the city resulted in far fewer causalities than Hiroshima.
pretty bad if you miss your target using an atomic bomb.
And the real reason had nothing to do with the Japs, but was to send a message to the Soviets
"ended up in the drink" 😮
Does he mean crash in the ocean?
Who says that???
He misses the point that these are us troops maybe some of them actually wanted to be the ones to drop it. If they returned you never know if they could have been replaced.
Too many assumptions and "I think" and "I believe they thought" here. The guy being interviewed seems to think that using the A bombs was still part of the strategy of destroying Japan's industry. Fire bombing had almost achieved this, and Nagasaki was one of at least half a dozen cities that weren't fire bombed intentionally. Allowing for the destructive power of the bomb to be judged more accurately.
The determination of the crew to complete the mission is not the same as blindly dropping the product of the second most expensive arms program in human history into the wind.
"They decided in the cockpit" makes it sound like it was up to the morals the pilot if he bombed at all. And that is not the case. They didn't even know 100% that the bomb would even detonate on impact.
This guy reminds me of that idiot Malcolm Gladwell
Why do you have your arms crossed like that in a defensive posture?
Sounds like BS to me. LeMay had a standing court martial order for aborted bomber missions and burned down most of Japan with napalm. So, I doubt he was going to court martial a bomber crew for dropping a bomb on what they were supposed to drop it on.
YouTube shorts are such brainrot.
Imagine seeing the neighboring city just turn to dust and finding out it was supposed be you.
Bunch of crying and memorials for the nuke getting dropped. But crickets when it comes to their own atrocities committed during ww2. Japan was far more evil than Germany. These people are truly something.
Very dishonest video
They were never meant to bomb the second target on theire list.
No, they were meant to bomb Nagasaki if they could not bomb Yokura. Having it as a secondary target means they were meant to bomb it, but not if their primary target was available.
Why are so many of these professors speaking in absolute terms like this? I have made a number of comments like this.
