Japow Day 7 – Hakuba Cortina

One for the books! We woke up early to some decent snowfall in Hakuba! We decided to get the Hakuba all mountain pass for $60 per day with access to 10 resorts, crazy, yes, but such a good deal. We ended up doing 2 resorts the first day and riding around 4 resorts the next day, a lot are interconnected. We inally figured out the bus route since we missed the first one and it was too early for our gas station to be opened for my banana milk and ice cream sandwich, and Tanuki’s coffee and Musubi. Once we got on the bus it was a 40 minute ride to Cortina, it was dumping the whole time but especially once we got up to Cortina. The lodge/hotel is breathtaking. Almost like an Alps looking hotel, this beautiful red roof and intricate designed windows and rooms were so amazing. We SHREDDED! The stoked had hit their maximum and we had waited for this day for what seems like our whole lives. It was here! The storm had arrived as had we! The first true day of JAPOWDER! We tore it up, non stop hitting tree runs and yelling, hootin’, hollerin’ just having a blast. We met a really cool Aussie Aunty, an Australian lady that had retired and is snowboarding all over the place, only having started a few years ago. She took us to the backside to the untouched goods! Oh my gosh it was dreamy. The visibility got a little crazy up top but since we were in the trees most of the day, it was amazing. We had the time of our lives, seriously. Couldn’t stop our energy. We did stop to grab a postcard, keychain and some grub and unfortunately I bought what appeared to be yummy jerky but alas was dogfood. I don’t think it actually was but it tasted as if it was. Got back out and skied til the resort closed with incredible tree runs, chutes, pillows, drops, man it was all time! Then paid $10 to hop in the best onsen in Hakuba, We stripped down naked from our board to boots and hopped in the incredible mineral waters at the 1st floor of the hotel, looking out to the ski resort, Sauna, steam room, and the onsens everywhere were to die for! Made it back for a delicious dinner and good night sleep!
