Sāikō || A film exploring the Japanese Freestyle Scene – Ski Film

SĀIKŌ, a movie all about capturing the freestyle park scene in Japan—especially in Hakuba. Out there, the freestyle community feels like its own world, a little disconnected from the global scene, and that’s what pushed me to make this film.

I wanted to show how Japanese riders see the mountain, what drives them, and what keeps them coming back for more.

Filming wasn’t easy—there was a huge language barrier. At times, I felt like I couldn’t fully understand their riding or what fueled their passion. But even without many words, we connected—through style, through movement, through the way we all see the mountain. And that’s what this movie is really about.

A huge thank you to all the Japanese riders for being so welcoming and showing me around Hakuba.
